Thanks for the review.

I have tickets to see it in November, but have been thinking about bringing my sister and niece to see it - and wanted to learn more about it before I bought more tickets...

I would say go for it. The kids will love it. There were young girls in the audience yesterday and afterwards they wouldn't stop talking about how much they loved it.

Ok, so you think if I just stick around after the show in the house, she'll come out and I can be like, "Sutton I love you! Here's a present. Let's take a photo"? Or do you have another suggestion?

I'm SO sorry about those ladies - you have every right to gripe! *sigh* 14 year olds who want to act and their moms have a tendency to bother me as well. After I saw 42nd Street in NY w/ Shirley Jones, we were all waiting outside the stage door for the cast to come out and this group of about twenty 14 year olds and their mothers were there. The little girls are asking, "Mom, who is that Dorothy Brock lady again?" And the moms are going, "Shirley Jones. You know, she was in that movie... uhm... oh yes, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."

Yes, and Jane Powell was Marian Paroo in The Music Man. *rolls eyes*

hahaha. Funny story. I asked a girl who was opening the doors (she was a student there) and she said she would go ask. If it wasn't for her coming up to me and telling me that she said yes, I would have left. Um......either ask someone who looks like a student working there like I did or just go down to the front left side of the theatre and just sit there for about 15-20 minutes to see (that is how long it took them to get out of costume and make-up and get out there).

Oh phooey! I went last night and was told they would not be coming out the stage door. I was very dissapointed. I might go back and try to get Sutton and Co.'s autographs another time because I really wanted to tell her that I thought she was great.
Spider-I thought Sutton was amazing. I didn't think she overacted. I was blown away. You and I disagree about Amy's voice. It drove me crazy in the first act. WAY too nasal and annoying. It was better in the second act. I posted my review last night.
What row did you sit in?

I was row M right section seat 1.
You said you were at the matinee?

I might try to go see it again by ushering. That way I can see it for free!
I agree with what you said about 'Astonishing.' I thought it was great. My aunt said to my dad (who has not seen Wicked). "Take 'Astonishing' and multiply the excitement level ten times and you get 'Defying Gravity'."

Yeah, I was at the 2pm performance. That would have rocked if we were there at the same time (but we wouldn't have known who was who so......re: Spider's LITTLE WOMAN review (Finally!!) ) "Defying Gravity" makes you go WOW when you first hear it because of the notes and energy. In "Astonishing" I just went, "God, that is beautiful"

The problem is, I can't remember how it goes!!!!! GAAAAA!!! Unfortunately, my entire being was not focused on that song because I had to go to the bathroom and I was worrying that the line for the bathroom would be too long. AS it turned out, I was the second person to get to the bathroom, so I blew it. All I can remember is the way she goes, "astoniSHING.' AAAHHHH! I want to remember. Is there a promotional CD that has come out?

If you go to the website, they have clips that play a little bit of a song

Thanks. I tried that, but for some reason the website wouldn't load. Also, my computer is stupid and doesn't have realplayer or whatever, I have to wait until I get on a computer that has it.
Didn't you think that the person who played Meg looked exactly like Belle from BATB? Her hair at least. She is GORGEOUS. *sigh of envy*

Beth was amazing. I loved the "Off to Massachussets" song she did with Mr. Lawrence at the piano. And like I said before "Some Things Are Meant to Be" had me balling. And she did look like Belle now that you mention it.

Yeah, the Massachussets song was cute. I was also crying during "Somethings are Meant to Be." So sad. Didn't you think Beth's white makeup was a bit excessive? She looked like a ghost!
What did you think of the "Operatic story" songs? I liked them and I loved how Sutton pantomimed everything they were doing in perfect unison, but my aunt thaought the songs were unneccesary and made the show too long.

Thanks for the review, spider! I wasn't too eager to see this when it hits NY, but I think I may give that a second thought...

I thought they were funny and a good way of drawing you and bringing you back into the show. I really liked the direction and staging for that part. I really hope I can see it again! Hopefully the ushering thing comes through.
Didn't it look like the bridge was a bit rickety? It was swinging back and forth and I was afraid it would break!

Kissmycookie- definitely give it a second thought. Even if you aren't intereste in the show, you should go just to see the performances. They are all, especially Sutton's, amazing. My review from last night gives my opinion in full detail.

Same here. Everytime they ran on that scafold, I was like "they're going to fall." lol. But, luckily they didn't.

And Kiss, I say go for it. It was really good. It is a breath of fresh air in the midst of contemporary musicals.

spider.. thanks for the review. Do you think/know if they are planning on making any changes between NC and NYC. I would imagine so. Your thoughts seem to be dead on, from what other friends of mine had said.
So there was another guy in the show, I believe he was lauries friend. How was he. I cannot for the life of me remember his name, but he was in one of my classes in NY when he got the part. Just curious. Thanks again!

The guys that were in the show are:

Laurie--Danny Gurwin
John Brooke--Jim Weitzer (amazing singer)
Prof. Baher--John Hickok
Mr. Laurence--Robert Stattel

I have no clue what they are going to change. I wish they would tone down Jo's character, have more scenes with Beth in it, and develop some of the characters more. But, besides that I think they should keep everything else intact.

Yes, he was really good for what a small part he had. I mean, he was barely in the musical. There is a song that he and Meg sing that is gorgeous and made me realize that I wish there was a bigger part for this guy so I could hear him sing more. Also, I think he was the most "believable" out of the male actors. Something about his acting was "real."

Hiya...thanks so much for that brilliant review...and thanks for the hint "the new Defying Gravity"
Do you have any clue if the sheet music is available anywhere?
I need a song to sing at a contest next year.

Sheet music, cast recordings, etc. are not released to the public until a show is finalized.
The reason shows have previews is so they can perform before an audience--for practice and to gauge reaction--and make necessary modifications. Before it hits broadway the song could be (HIGHLY unlikely, but still) changed or even replaced. It gives the production team flexibility.

Wait a few months and then the music will be readily available.
