I am one of the few people who actually enjoyed the original version of Spiderman. Well the music did and still does need a major overhaul

That being said..the new version is horrible. Every thing that was good (and Dark) about the show has been removed and replaced with fluff. The few elements of Julie that still remain are the high points. (Boy Falls From the Sky and Turn Off the dark) The show originally had a great opening with spiderman running on the bridge..now it opens with some lame dialogue meant to educate the audience.

Patrick Page unfortunetly has been given an overabundance of stage time and lame jokes.

The character of Arachne should have been removed entirely seeing that the character has no use in the new version.

The so called love swtory falls flat.

Spiderman makes one appearance in act one?

Act 2 picks up the pace but the whole show just feels "SAFE" now.

I believed Spiderman could have become something great. It was dark and brooding. Now its family fair done very poorly.

Julie Taymor commented that the show is simpler now. Applause to you Julie that was a classy way to say that the show is just a bore. I agree that the producer took the art out of the show and replaced it with everything the critics wanted. Hence, you have a piece of trash for a show just like the critics themselves.

Anyone who listens or bases their opinions on someone elses judgements. Should just stay home in their own little world.

"now it opens with some lame dialogue meant to educate the audience"

Ugh. I hate when they do that. Although I did learn about the tropopause in "Perestroika" and it ended up on the GREs, so in that one instance it was good they did that.

I couldn't agree with you 1000% more. I was thinking of seeing your show but your review has totally changed my mind.

I held on to these tickets for months not to mention the 5 times I had to travel back to NYC to exchange them through all the false openings and the $282 down the drain.

I really expected to see a better more polished version.

I thought the original was a mess as far as story went, I did not hate it but was disappointed. I find that their fix of the story made it boring, Act 1 felt like an eternity. IMO, Patrick Page was one of the strengths of the show and was glad they gave him more time. Yes. they could have done better with him, especially a more spectacular ending (unless they changed it since I saw the first show when they came back~SPOILER~I kind of thought a plain old splat sign could have been jazzed up a bit with more effects) I did not take to his opening number in Act 2, but after listening the recording it grew on me. I agree about Arachne, I like how she added a darkness to the show in a haunting way and it is missed in the new version.

I wish she sang Think Again in act two. that would have spiced it up.

I actually thought 1.0 was salvageable. I thought 2.0 was a boring mess. I'm glad Patrick Page has more to do, but the whole show is now far less fun.

I agree with all the opinions stated. I really thoughtt the first version could have been turned into something that would have showed the naysayers. The playbill article Julie had done good points. They went wrong when they tried to please everyone. I guess with 65 million on the line they tried to be safe.

Wow I didn't realize they had gotten rid of the great opening. That is depressing Spiderman...sigh

At least the weaving scene is still there, which I think is the most beautiful thing I've seen in a while.
