Is being in "SpiderMan" a good or bad thing for your theatre career? I would think it is good to have on your resume any Broadway show but there has been such negativity with this show. Just curious what people who are in the business think about any possible effects for performers being in this show.

I don't really see how this is a bad career move.

The accident that happened recently was not the result of one of the Spider-Man effects. In fact what happened could have happened at any other show. The main reason why there was some negativity stemming from that incident was because of the stuff that happened early on in the show's run.

Well of course it's a great career move. The issues with the show have nothing to do with cast.

It's still a Broadway credit.

Most people can make that distinction.

....but the world goes 'round

No future employer is going to look at a resume and think, "Ew, they have no taste since they accepted a job on Spider-Man."

It's experience in a b'way show.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

tazber - I understand the cast had nothing to do with the technical issues but this show has been trashed for it's music and book also. I just was checking and did not know if people hiring considered the quality of a show you had experience in.

drama - I know most actors can not be that picky when it comes to getting work so they would not be blamed for taking a part in a show that was not considered very good. I was just wondering if people hiring took into consideration the quality of the show you had Broadway experience in. I did not think it mattered but thought I would ask people who know a heck of lot more about the business than me - lol.

Uhm, why would a casting agent hold the show against someone who was in it? The show has a history, the performers don't.

They are talented enough to be cast, they should be talented enough to get other work.

It depends.

You don't get hurt = good career move
Something heavy falls on your head or you crash land in the audience = bad career move

It's experience in a Broadway show. The talent of the cast has no correlation to the book, score, and show itself (which is theme park entertainment that is just a couple notches above Wicked and Lion King IMO). When I saw the show, it was the very talented cast that actually managed to "upstage" the less than ideal material they were working with. Many talented performers have worked on shows that have turned out to be unsuccessful.
