As long as they keep pulling in full houses, they don't really care if it "opens". Additionally: no pesky reviews to worry about.

Question: is there any difference in actors' pay between between rehearsals, previews and performances??? Just curious.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

There's generally a difference between rehearsal salaries and performance salaries. But not between previews and regular performances.

They may not care, but if history is any guide, the critics will care, and if it appears that "Spider-man" is just extending and extending its previews without any opening in sight, they'll pick a date themselves and just review it.

Many years ago, the producer of a play that was far from an event entitled "Paris Is Out!" decided he would not invite critics at all to review the play and designated no opening night. The critics decided on an opening night themselves and reviewed it. If my memory is correct, the musical "Sarava" likewise began previews with no designated opening night and the critics at some point came on their own.

That thought was definitely in the back of my head -- and I really posted the comment in 1/2 jest. My true intent was really just about selling tickets -- which likely won't be affected by an "opening night".

It wouldn't be eligible for any awards if it didn't officially open though -- would it. (Not that I'm suggesting it won't eventually open.)

(PS. Thanks for the trivia info!)

What it will do is cost them a lot more money, as they will have to pay for all the extra hours everyone is working.
And make everyone tired and vunerable to injuries.
