I was reading some various posts and saw how into Hello Dolly Dollypop is (i love it!!) And was wondering if dollypop knew of On the Razzle... I did that show in college and it was quite fun!! Shows like She Loves Me come from "THe Shop around the corner" which also lead to "You've Got Mail" the movie...
While MANY Broadway shows come from books and movies... how many can we link together (where a show comes from a source that has had numerous incarnations previously)?!?!

Wouldn't it be more challenging to list how many don't come from another source?
the vast, vast, vast majority of Broadway musicals are inspired or based on prior works.
the links would be amazingly numerous and only a handful of shows were done as shows originally conceived as a musical.
and i think On the Razzle was based on The Merchant of Yonkers which begat the Matchmaker which begat Hello Dolly:)
the only "original" musical, with no prior source production or existence before its musical theater beginning I can think of at this moment is A CHORUS LINE.

I like the idea of guessing what shows are TRUELY original like the above mentioned, but I meant... what shows are products of NUMEROUS versions prior to the form of a Broadway Musical.
VARIOUS Books, Movies, Songs, etc. prior to being crafted for the stage... For instance, Little Shop of Horrors was both a novel AND a Black and White Movie (with Jack Nicholson) prior to being crafted in the hit we love today...
