Spoiler Request: Groundhog Day

Watching a curtain call video of GD and at the end the cast throws snowballs at the audience. Are these real snowballs or some manufactured material that doesn't hurt if thrown hard and doesn't melt?

I've seen the show twice and they didn't throw snowballs at the audience either time, so perhaps the video was from opening night or some other occasion. However, there are two scenes in the show when Phil interacts with other characters and they throw snowballs at unseen people offstage (to stage right). The "snow" sprinkles from overhead onto a specific area of the stage and they get down on the ground and pack it into balls and throw it. It appears to be a synthetic substance than wafts down lightly and packs well.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was searching for something and came upon this.

That video was from the opening night show. They threw some of the snowballs from the snowball fight scene into the audience then, and only then as far as I know. They are foam.

It was a fun evening.
