This really wasn't a pop culture reference but more of a broadway reference (atleast I interpreted it that way). There's a part where George sings a line like "And everything Taboo." Now I thought that was kind od like nudge nudge to Boy George and his musical Taboo b/c out of all the characters during that part that could have sang that little line they gave it to the one that was most like boy george. Knowing the fact that Boy George did a musical called Taboo might help! Maybe thats just me...

You should warn the readers with a *spoilers*
Felicia is imitating the cheesy 80's rock videos as SNL said.

There's a funny missed reference on page 33 of the "Love is What We Do" thread. In "Right In Front Of Your Eyes", Holly sings about champaign wishes, caviar dreams and the lives of the rich and famous.

"Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" was an '80's TV show, and the host used to sign of with "Champaign wishes and caviar dreams."

Now you need to know the reference to think it's funny or clever, but the song and plot still make sense without it.

In reference to my multiple posts, that was through no fault of my own. It was an accident. Anyway, I'll probably start going back on this thing when I get back because I have a feeling there are a few references I'm not gonna get.

"EASY ON THE TRIGGER FINGER. Jeez."

What? It wasn't his fault the posts posted like that. That actually happened to me twice before.

And how is imitating a cheesy 80s video really considered a spoiler??? It doesn't do much to reveal the plot...

I think you'll get most of the spoofs without any problems(our 10 yr old Loved it), her fav (and mine) is the Casualty of Love scene. You should recognize direct correlations with another very famous video from the 80's. Have a Great Time!

Watch the movie first. I love the musical, but to me it will never replace the movie. Most of the lines in the musical were lifted directly from it.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

Not at all, the musical is 1,000,000 times better than the movie.

yea, i liked the movie, thought it was alright, but for some reason i just didnt like the way drew barrymore (sorry if i spelled that wrong) plays julia. theres just something that i didnt like. but in the musical, i LOVE julia. she is such a fun and sweet character. plus the fact the the musical is live make me love it soo much! i cant even watch the movie now cause it would make me hate it. i couldnt do that cause it wasnt a bad movie, lol. i cant watch tarzan or the lion king again either, ha ha. i guess im just wierd like that.

I didn't really like Drew Barrymore in the movie either.

you know what i annoyed me.... when i saw this show the girls next to me (besides being REALLY obnoxious before and during intermissions) had no clue what any of the 80s references were... and kept making comments during the show... aarggh... i was born in 78 so i pretty much got all of them... and as much as i love the show... the Imelda Marcos thing seemed to go over the head of the whole audience... i think myself and like 3 other people in the audience when i went got the joke... but then again i'm also Filipino and that's the kinda stuff you pretty much know... haha...

'favorite references;

"nobody's ever gonna pay 3 bucks for a cup of coffee!"
"new coke... thats brilliant!" '

yeah, i love those ones too! is the coffee one referring to Starbucks? that's what i think it is...

i loved the cell phone, and CD player things in the show, too!

well, i loved the whole show, actually! you definitely dont need 80's knowledge to get it...helps, but not required. its such a fun time, and everyone should go see it! i really wanna see it again...

:)

yeah
