Playbill.com has an article about Spotlight on Broadway. This new website will be highlighting several Broadway theatre houses, as well as the shows that played those theatres. So far, the houses that are being profiled are: the Richard Rodgers, August Wilson, Majestic and Booth. Absolutely fascinating! Also, theatre luminaries will be honored too. from RC in Austin, Texas

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

This initiative is an incredible achievement. I cannot wait until the final product is completed. BRAVO, mayor's office!

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I have spent all morning watching every video to each theatre....I am getting nothing done today. I love the "view from the stage" feature

This site is glorious so far. These videos are fantastic, I too am losing all my free time today to checking this out.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

This had me up into the wee hours of the night last night. Such an amazing resource. I have been waiting a long time for something like this.

One word: epic! What an extensive and thoroughly historic resource. Something like this was long overdue, but I'm thrilled it's finally here!

Wonderful, wonderful collection of memories! Beautiful way to capture history!

I love everything about this!

(I posted a link directly to the site on Facebook - it's a gem that should be shared!)

Wow, despite the fact that every one of the films flickers and jumps on all of my computers like crazy, (fix that, guys) this is an AMAZING site. Congrats should be dolloped on these people.

I don't know how widely-circulated they'd been before this site, I've never thought to look for them, but the photos of the New Amsterdam and Friedman from just before their extensive renovations are astonishing. These videos are really giving me a new appreciation, or really just a deeper, greater appreciation for the work of the amazing theatre restoration architects and designers.

I know that work is old news, but these videos have me singing their praises anew!
