The music is beautiful in Spring Awakening, and the brilliant sound design gives this show some of the most satisfying sounds currently on Broadway. The string arrangements are glorious. This show will make a great cast album.

But for the life of me, I can't figure out what these songs have to do with the characters or the story. If the songs in this show were redistibuted among the actors, the show would make as much sense. They never push the action forward, or define character (unless defining character means that a morose person therefore sings a morose song) . But this show is overflowing with talent, and I think it could do well.

I have to say, though, it's hard not to grow a little impatient with a stage full of 22-year-olds who don't know where babies come from.

Behind the fake tinsel of Broadway is real tinsel.
