Spring Awakening 12/21: Full House

I first saw Spring Awakening last Saturday. I loved it so much that i needed to see it again before I went home for the holidays. So I planned to line up at 9am for Student Rush tickets. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I got to the box office around a quarter past 10 in the morning and there were no more tickets left. The guy at the box office said they sold fifty that day and they were all gone 10 minutes after the box office opened. Really wanting to see the show again, I decided to pay $65 for discounted seats, first row front mezzanine, towards the left. They were pretty good seats and the show was amazing as usual. The audience this time seemed more enthusiastic about the show as compared to last Saturday. Again, the standing ovation began even before the cast came out for the curtain call. They came out at least 3 times before the audience stopped applauding.

But here's the really good news, at the stage door, I was briefly talking to John Gallagher and I mentioned how the student rush seats got sold pretty quickly. He said that over the past week, they've been playing to almost a full house. However, this Wednesday's show was the first sold-out show they've had and the first time they offered Standing Room tickets. This is a good sign and I hope this continues. Fingers Crossed, Spring Awakening will run way after the Tony's.

"Fingers Crossed, Spring Awakening will run way after the Tony's."

First, I'd hope that it runs until the Tony's before trying to go for after them. But here's hoping!

I saw it last Friday, and it was full except for the rear mezz. It was the first night of Hanukkah, which may have been a factor. I think January is the challenge. They have to stay in the black. They have wisely adopted a no Wed matinee/Monday eve schedule, which might maximize their chances to find their audience. It's a good sign that the CD is flying off the shelf, even in NJ.

re: Spring Awakening 12/21: Full House

Well Wednesday the guy at the box office told me that the first person was in line at 9am. Since the show is gaining popularity and it is for Friday, I say go around 8 or 8:30 just to be safe.

You can get 2 tickets for 1 person who has a student ID I think. So. If you do have an ID, you can get a ticket for yourself and your sister. But if you need more than two, I don't think you can use your sister's ID without her being there.

re: Spring Awakening 12/21: Full House

I got to the box office yesterday at around 10:15am, expecting Rush seats to be still available since it was a weekday, but the guy said all 50 tickets were gone 10 minutes after the box office opened.

WHA! I was there Wednesday night too, my first Awakening experience. Front mezzanine, A15. Got there a few minutes after 10am, no more student rush seats. But had to see it with friends- very much worth the American Express gift card.

It's a great show- mix of storytelling, Sheik music, and then some. What an array of young and brilliant performers!

I'll be seeing it again, that's for sure.

Well, when I saw Wedding Singer, it was sold-out also...so if that puts thing into perspective...

also, even though B&N sold-out of the Cd, i doubt they had more than 4-5 copies of it anyways. Just a thought. I hope the show does well.

re: Spring Awakening 12/21: Full House

well i was thinking that, but it's a friday matinee, i think theyre the only show with a matinee that day and tkts opens at 3 so i don't know

re: Spring Awakening 12/21: Full House

Glory, TKTS has been open EVERY Morning selling tickets to the Radio City show. They open at 3 for evening. They have their standard hours, like every show, and like every show, they adjust as needed for holidays.

re: Spring Awakening 12/21: Full House

Just because the rush seats are selling out doesn't mean that the show is making boffo bucks. Being on TKTS every night doesn't exactly spell HIT.

re: Spring Awakening 12/21: Full House

Princeton, the only shows that havn't been on TKTS recently are the blockbusters like Wicked and Jersey Boys. There's no shame in it. We're just happy because it sounds like Spring Awakening is hitting its groove, that word of mouth is out, and that they will be able to sustain themselves. Week by week, their numbers have improved steadily and it looks like this week will be better than the last. We're not saying that it's suddenly going to topple Wicked or even join the top 5 list. That would be ridiculous.
