Spring Awakening

Well, I've seen the music video but I'm not sure what I think.

What is the show about exactly? I've read the synopsis, but it didn't explain much -- sexual awakening in teens. Hm. Ok, but what is it about?

And are they going to be onstage with the microphones like they were in the video? It's kind of cool, but how does that work? Is the show like a rock concert?

The musical is based on the classic play of the same name written by Frank Wedekind in the 1890's. I saw it at during the Off Broadway run at the Atlantic this Summer. It is about more than sexual awakening. It deals with many issues which face teens and young adults; sexuality, independence, knowledge, responsibility. The plot primarily follows the lives of three teenagers over a short period of time and how they deal with these issues. What i found interesting was that things are not materially different today than in 1890.

Yes they use handheld mics which is kinda cool. The songs function more as a way to deliver internal monlogues than anything else and only the teenage characters sing the adults do not.
