Hi all
I am coming to NY for the first time in May and want to see American Idiot, I was hoping to get some advice about seats at the St James Theater. For the performance I want to go to my options are the orchestra row m seat 21 or the mezzanine row a seat 18 (far right end of the row). Does anyone have any suggestion as to which seat is better?
Thanks in advance
Since both seats are over to one side....I'd go with Row A in the Mezz -- often the best seats in any house.
With either seat you would be far off to the side; Row M seat 21 would be close to the end of the row. Personally, I would go with the mezzanine seat--at least you would be in the first row.

I saw the show in Berkeley and if you too far on the right, you'll miss the action on the right side of the stage which is more than on the left. So, whichever is closer to the center, would be my suggestion.
No contest here..take the mezz..
Why? In the St. James orchestra you will be sitting under the overhang starting in row J....by row M, you are putting up with sound and sightlines influenced by that overhang.
Row A Mezz, on the other hand, is a clear and open for sight and sound -- and is only about 10 rows away from the stage.
Take Row A Mezz, without a doubt.

Compared to the Shubert stage..how high is the St. James stage?
I don't know how high it is, but it's very tall and the set makes full use of the height.
I definitely agree to go with the mezz. Great way to see this show. And as contini said, the overhang is so much that mezz A is actually much closer to the stage than at most theaters.
It's true, you may not see the keyboardist and other SR action though.
I think the Shubert and the St James are about the same height, I've sat front row multiple times at both. Pretty high, but could be worse.
front row mezz in the st. james is one of the best places to sit in a theater imo

The front mezz in the St James is wonderful. Even the last row of the mezz was good for this show (I sat there Weds. night).
I loathe the balcony at the St. James. I'd avoid it like the plague.
I actually think the St. James has one of the best orchestra floors on Broadway. Even from M, you feel much closer than M on most floors.

I was wondering what the partial view seats are like at the St. James. I know for the lottery they give the front row, but I read that they offer partial view tickets to the losers for cheap. I'm not quite sure if partial view would be the same for each show, since some of it probably has to do with blocking and sets. Still, if anyone could tell me a little more about how bad these seats are it would really make me happy.
