St. Ann's Warehouse's 22-23 Season Includes NT's WUTHERING HEIGHTS and MONSOON WEDDING Musical

Productions include the US premiere of Wuthering Heights (October 14-November 6), adapted and directed by Emma Rice; the US premiere of Gina Moxley's punk-infused The Patient Gloria (November 16-December 4), a collaboration with the Dublin-based company Pan Pan; Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson's immersive play The Jungle (February 18-March 19, 2023), returning to St. Ann's following its 2018 American premiere; and Monsoon Wedding (May 2023), adapted by Mira Nair, who directed the original 2002 film. Monsoon Wedding features a book by Sabrina Dhawan and Arpita Mukherjee, music by Vishal Bhardwaj, and lyrics by Masi Asare and Susan Birkenhead.

Awesome! I had a feeling Wuthering Heights would be in the season, because it was scheduled for Berkeley Rep, and I know Emma Rice has a long-standing relationship with St. Ann’s. It’s been 6 years since I’ve seen a new Emma Rice show - in the intervening time, she’s been fired from the Globe, and Kneehigh closed up shop. A rough chapter in her career, I’m sure, but she’s an excellent artist, and I’m excited to see her next offering. 

Speaking of Berkeley Rep…I saw the Monsoon Wedding musical there about 5 years ago. It was a total mess - hope they’ve done a lot of work on it since then. 

Glad that The Jungle is finally getting the return engagement they were supposed to get. 

As for the 4th - I don’t know the show, the artist, or the company. But if it’s an St. Ann’s it has to be interesting!

MONSOON WEDDING is also going to play in Qatar in November, as part of a cultural program coinciding with the soccer World Cup.

I saw Wuthering Heights this weekend. I love Emma Rice, and she did an adorable job directing this. Not sure if it works as an adaptation though…
