Stage Door Question (July 10th-July 15th)
#0Stage Door Question (July 10th-July 15th)
Posted: 1/29/06 at 11:01amHey. I am going to NYC this summe July 10th- July 15th. I am staying at the Milford Plaza and seeing five shows: "Wicked," "Jersey Boys," "The Wedding Singer," "The Color Purple," and "Spamalot." In regards to the stage door... will I have to leave early from any of these, like at curtain call, to get a good spot or what? Any help would be appreciated!

Posted: 1/29/06 at 11:07amAs of now you'd have to run for Spamalot and Wicked. But since your going after the tony's and all these new shows are expected to do pretty well you will probably have to run for all of them. But even if you don't have a good spot the actors that come out still try to sign for everyone.

Posted: 1/29/06 at 11:09amWith "Wicked," I am lucky in the fact that my seats are directly in front of a door (Row F Seats 24 and 26) so I am going to leave right at the beginning of curtain call. Same for the others...

Posted: 1/29/06 at 11:43amDO NOT leave at the beginning of curtain call. It is incredibly rude. If you rush out the door right after the curtain goes down, you'll be fine.

Posted: 1/29/06 at 12:14pmActually, you don't have to run for either Wicked or Spam. Neither of them have as big crowds as they did when "Names" were in the show. And by the time you see it, Pierce and Azaria will be gone, so, unless they get Robin Williams to replace one of 'em, the crowd will be virtually non-existent.

Posted: 1/29/06 at 12:49pmI have to agree with everyone else, DO NOT leave during curtain call. If you're such a fan of these people that you're going to stagedoor the show, at least have the respect to acknowledge their performances during the curtain call.

Posted: 1/29/06 at 12:52pmIt's a waste of your time to leave during curtain call. The people who are going to sign are going to sign and the people who leave are going to leave...regardless of when you get there or where you are standing.

Posted: 1/29/06 at 12:56pmThats a great point ShuQ. Unless an actor is in a huge hurry (in which most cases they probably wouldn't come out the stage door anyways), it is pretty rare that they wouldn't sign for everyone waiting (as long as that person actually gets their stuff accessible to the actor). I have been with a group where some people ended up 3 or 4 people-thick back, but they still either hold their stuff up to get signed or gave it to someone else to hold for them.

This is exactly what it has come to, "Forget the Curtain Call, We're gonna run and push folks out of the way to get to that stage door!"
Theater used to be such an Art - Now it is fast food for autograph whores. For shame! I hope nobody tries to push past me, I WONT let you leave till the curtain is DOWN!

Posted: 1/29/06 at 2:24pmI am sorry! I won't leave during Curtain Call. I was only going to because someone told me to. I understand the respectful factor...

Okay, so you know not to leave at curtain call, that's good, we'll drop that topic now :) Um...I don't know how Wicked is now, I haven't seen it yet with Megan and Eden, so I don't know how crazy it is, though I can guess. And like Yankeefan said, Hank and David will be gone from Spamalot, so it won't be that crazy. (although I'm so sorry you're missing them!) And I haven't seen the other three, so you're on your own with those. Have fun!

Edit: I'm pretty sure Megan will be gone when you see Wicked, am I right? So that might calm things down a little.

Milford Plaza ROCKS, btw..that's where I stayed! if you have a night you don't go to a show, you can stalk the stage doors of the surounding theatres even if you didn't see the show !hahah
AND don't leave early. The Curtain Calls are fun! Just be real good about snaking your way through people and walk real fast. I had no trouble at any of my shows (including OBC of DRS, and Little Women, and a reg night of Wicked (I actually got lost on the way to that door, and was there about 15 minutes late but still got everyone I wanted!), Rent and Ave Q...I was in the front for all).
Just book it, and you'll have a good spot :)
GOOD luck and Have lots of fun! and post pics when you return!!
