I've always been curious about the stage doors for the Shubert, Broadhurst, Majestic, Booth, Plymouth, Jacobs and Golden Theatres. I've seen pictures where it looks like its underground, and there are different coloured arrows to each theatre, etc.
Can someone explain what its like down there, and how they are all connected?
I'm sure there must be some way to get from theater to theater (they are all one building and must be connected somehow!). But the actual stage doors are as follows:
Shubert- In Shubert Alley
Broadhurst- Exit the theater, directly to the right.
Majestic- On 45th street, it's a big alleyway that is currently under construction
Booth- In Shubert Alley
Plymouth (now Schoenfeld)- Exit the theater, directly to the left
Jacobs- Exit the theater, directly to the right
Golden- Same alleyway as Phantom, take a left exiting the theater
I don't know about all of these, but the Jacobs has 2 stage doors - the current show, Once, uses the front stage door, just a few feet to the right of the entrance. The 2nd door (used for some shows) is in the same alley as the Golden and Majestic. This alley opens on 45th near 8th I believe.
I do know that the Jacobs has 2, but I was just going by Once, since that seems like it will be there for a while. I remember God of Carnage was tough to tell which would be used (at least when I went)

They are, in fact, all connected behind the theatres.... thus, giving each a "secret" exit.

I've been told by a friend who works there that the Schoenfeld and the Broadhurst have a connecting tunnel underneath them, at the basement level; he calls the tunnel the "Schoenhurst."

I have a friend in Phantom so I've been backstage @ the Majestic You go to this dull, empty basement and then you go up some stairs. It's the same for Jacobs & Golden. There are three signs with the golden arrows you were talking about with the name of the theater and you just go where the arrows are pointed. I'm not sure about the other theaters-I only know about those three. Hope this helps!
