Irving Berlin's real name was Israel Baline. When his first song was published ("Marie From Sunny Italy" - for which he wrote the lyrics), his name was mis-spelt on the sheet music - and he decided to keep the name Irving Berlin.
BTW, as a Welshman, I thought I should mention the real names of a couple of classic Welsh actors:
RICHARD BURTON - Richard Jenkins
RAY MILLAND - Raymond Truscotte-Jones
