I'm right with you there, Plum. The second time I saw the show, that number KILLED.
But she really did improve, and I don't think it was a case of her having a bad night the first time I saw her. Because she was better in every single scene, and every number. She even managed to make that ridiculous "Theme From Arthur" scene go over, which is a major achievement for ANY actor.
I know where you were going regarding my "phone it in" comment, as it IS a terribly rude thing to accuse an actor of. However, I've seen it too many times (Faith Prince comes immediately to mind).

The second time I saw THE BOY FROM OZ, I had a chance to talk to Stephanie at the stage door. My friend and I told her that we were very impressed with the emotional scene when Liza learned about Judy's death. She candidly said : " It's all due to him ( Hugh) - he is so supportive of us ".

Posted: 12/2/04 at 11:26pmI also thought Stephanie Block grew in the role of Liza. I saw the show four times during its run. The last two times I saw BFO, she was a force onstage. Everyone in the cast was superb. I never felt let down even after seeing it numerous times.
