Tonight I spoke with an actor who has starred opposite Stephanie Block, and mentioned to him all the talk surrounding who will replace Idina Menzel as Elphaba in Wicked and that Stephanie's name was often mentioned as a likely replancement. He confirmed to me that yes, Stephanie Block will be taking over the role of Elphaba when Idina leaves the show!
why so hostile? Stephanie is A-MAY-ZING
but, but, but, I wanted her on the tour!!!!!!

Theres a huge rumor Idina is doing the tour.
yeah there is...I dind't hear the whole tour, just Toronto...
i hope its someone else
I know that Kristin was offered the opportunity to do the tour. There's also been talk of Idina and Kristin opening the show in London.

oh I see. Sorry about the mix up.
I just think Idina should let go of the role already. There are plenty of people would could play the part and whose voices aren't as worn out as Idinas. I'm sure she's been offered to do stuff and she should take that opportunity. How long did she stay in Rent for?
As for Stephanie, I would LOVE to see her in this show. I think she's the best!
Menzel to cast spell on T.O.?
Tony winner may star
in Mirvish's Wicked
RICHARD OUZOUNIAN
She'll get you, my pretty ... and your little dog, too!
The Wicked Witch of the West is flying into Toronto and she just may be bringing a Tony Award along with her broom.
My sources in Manhattan have told me that when the first national tour of Wicked begins here next March as part of the Mirvish subscription season, there's a real possibility that Idina Menzel will be recreating the role for which she won the Best Actress In a Musical Tony this past June.

If Kristin did the tour I'd be there but a drive to Toronto isn't worth it just for one of them...you know? It's like going to see simon w/o garfunkle
sorry.. i'm just bitter. i don't want idina to leave... although i would love for her to do any part of the tour!

I know how you feel, we've grown accustomed to her face. But Eden just proves that someone else can do the role and now Mrs. Bean is proving that now.
:)
Stephanie is going to be HOT in that role. I for one, can not wait to see her!

About Stephanie: Nothing is confirmed yet but it's a very real possibility.

I would love to see Stephanie as Elphaba, though I do admit I am disappointed that I'll never see it with Idina.. I have tickets for about 2 weeks after she leaves. However, my friend saw Stephanie in BFO and said she is awesome, so I'm willing to go with it and give her the chance if she is the next green girl
Stephanie herself might say one thing in public and another to a close friend. My "source" (sounds like I'm the Washington Post or something) told me she was definitely taking over for Idina, and then repeated it. I saw Stephanie Block locally at the Downey Civic Light Opera playing Fannie Brice in Funny Girl back in 1993 and starring in South Pacific in 94. I knew then that she was on to much bigger things. As for Idina Menzel's voice being "worn out," it sounded as amazingly rich to me as ever when I saw Wicked twice last month. In any case, good cast replacements just make a show new and exciting. I loved Jennifer Laura Thomspson as Galinda, and didn't mind a bit not seeing Kristin Chenoweth. So congrats to Stephanie, and when the official announcement is made, you'll have heard it here first.
Stephanie taking over for Idina, in my opinion, is probably the best thing that could happen to Wicked. I can't wait for Idina to leave, and Stephanie taking over for her will be the only thing that gets me to see Wicked again.
Plus, her and Jen would totally rock my socks playing opposite one another.
I think at one point the Box Office was telling people that Stephanie would be the next Elphie
Ok I'm probably going to be fried for this but as much as I love Stephanie, and I do, I don't know that I want her to be Elphaba. I'm not saying she couldn't handle it b/c she probably could nor that she wouldn't do a great job in the role...I just don't see her as Elphaba. I've sort of grown accustomed to the "Elphaba" look-ie: Idina and Eden and that dark-haired passionate almost a little waifish looking *young* woman with that amazing belt. So sue me but I would rather see someone like that, more like the Elphaba I pictured in the book in the role rather than Stephanie.

honestly...im just excited to see what somebody else is going to do.
i agree with elsgr8 : "In any case, good cast replacements just make a show new and exciting." i had my doubts about jla, but shes amazing, so im sure sjb will dominate.
however, elsgr8, i wouldnt go taking credit for letting everyone know about sjb as the replacement just yet, thats been going around for literally DECADES.

I'm confused- Block isn't young? And she was definitely dark-haired the last time I checked. And I assume everyone takes on the same skin tone when they're slathered in green makeup.
Maybe I'm missing something here. Anyway, I have no investment in this since I'm not watching the show in the future, but if Schwartz and Co. thought she was good enough to play the part in the workshops, she should do okay in it now.
