Stephanie J. Block in London Concert!

Stephanie J. Block will be coming back to London, and this time to appear in her own Concert! She is being Produced by the same team behind the sell out Scott Alan Concerts earlier in the year (SimG Productions)! Can't wait!

Here's the info I found on the New Players Theatre website:

Stephanie J. Block in Concert at the New Players Theatre in London on Sunday 28th February 2010 - 6pm & 8.30pm.

Celebrated leading lady Ms Stephanie J. Block is best known for her Helen Hayes Award winning performance as Elphaba in Wicked on the US Tour. On Broadway Stephanie has created roles in The Boy From Oz, Pirate Queen and 9 to 5, and has been nominated for Drama Desk, Drama League, and Ovation Awards. Her numerous Concert performances span America, she has played the renowned Jazz club Birdland in New York many times, and more recently was a special guest at Scott Alans sold out London Concerts.

For one date only, Stephanie will be performing her very own unique Concert in London, featuring a selection of songs from her debut album This Place I Know and songs highlighting her amazing career so far. Joining her will be her Musical Director Dominick Amendum, together with the sounds of a four-piece band and special West End guests Annalene Beechey and Oliver Tompsett (subject to availability).

Stephanie J. Block in Concert promises to be an event not to be missed!

re: Stephanie J. Block in London Concert!

clearly "tommyslim" - your picture speaks volumes about your character!!

it is very rare for London to get the chance to see these Broadway names, and i think it is a very reasonable price to pay to see them.

Frankly, i believe she is a far bigger name than Scott, she has had MUCH more profile than he has!! Though i do believe they are of equal talent!!

if Stephanie is not your cup of tea or, in your price range, no one is forcing you to go, and why be so damn miserable...?? The Scott Alan concert was one of the best evenings i've had in the theatre for a long time!

i appreciate we are all entitled to an opinion, but senseless slagging off of performers just isn't fair. Can you do better?!

re: Stephanie J. Block in London Concert!

The album put me to sleep as much as Victoria Wood did last night.
Great in '9 To 5', so so in 'The Pirate Queen', I imagine her to be pretty droll in cabaret for an hour.

i adore the album, a really sweet listen, but I can not listen to the whole thing in a sitting, if it comes on shuffle on my iPod, i'll listen to what ever song... but I wont go looking for it!

I am just excited as I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of hers, and finally get a chance to see her live!

Even if it is a bore, aslong as she perfoms Never Neverland with her Album orchestrations, I will be EXTREMLY happy!

Haha, I am PRESUMING she will be using backing tracks, if not, I suppose it will only be a piano unfortunately, the stage is not that small if you think there is just one person on stage stood at the front, but I am HOPING it will be a similar size band as when she or Scott Alan etc. do Birdland concerts!

re: Stephanie J. Block in London Concert!

my darling sondheimfan1982....

to be quite frank YES I could do better. and senseless slagging off performers??? I didn't. I said she bored me at Scott Alan, and her album wasn't up to much. which she did, and it isn't. You only have to read mama's reply to see that. And I know atleast 20 other people who all said the same as they were sat around me when watching Scott Alan.

I am not doubting the people who enjoy her enjoy her... but all I have to say is that if you think Scott Alan was one of the best nights you'd had in a theatre in a long time then I really do pity you for what else you must have seen recently. Either that or you are around the age of 16. which would explain alot.

She was good in 9 to 5. But she's hardly a Broadway name... are you seriously comparing SJB to the likes of Ethel Mermen, Patti Lupone and Carol Channing...?? they are Broadway names.

And anyway like you say everyone is entitled to there opinion so that is exactly what I was doing. stating it.

But don't worry... I won't dampen your night by being there.

I hope everyone who goes does have a great night, its for her fans and her fans will be there. I'm sure someone will post a full report on the night, which is great. So enjoy yourselves.

re: Stephanie J. Block in London Concert!

I feel the same about her CD Mama and I love me some Stephanie Block, very much let down by that. However I would like to see her in concert because the CD hasn't totally put me off. Sadly I'll be in London the week before and just miss it.

re: Stephanie J. Block in London Concert!

tommyslim, as a theatre fan from New York I would consider Block to be a Broadway name. No, she may not be as famous as someone like Merman or LuPone etc. But, she is a Braodway name in that theatre fans know who she is and that she can sell tickets to things based upon her name being involved with things.

Now, I do believe this concert would be similar in style to the ones done at Birdland awhile back. I was at one of them and it was a blast.
