Stephanie Mills' version of "Home" on The Wiz cast album

Love her voice and what she brought to the songs. (Also loved her in a more mature role on TV's recent Wiz.) But on the cast album, Stephanie sings, "Suddenly my world's gonn'd and changed its face." I always wondered if "gonn'd" was a slip of the tongue that they simply kept rather than re-do. Or did she perform it that way in the show, as a nod to the character's lack of sophistication? This might seem like a picky question, but it's long intrigued me, as I'm a big theater queen, lol.

I hear "Maybe my world's gonna change its face...."

I do hear a bit of a blip at the point you hear a "d" in "gond-a", but I think it's just the singer moving her tongue unintentionally.

It's been awhile, but I saw Miss Mills in the show many times and I don't remember noticing that her Dorothy spoke awkward grammar.

It's an ellision. there's not a whole lot of differenece between "gone and" and "gon'nd" - all you have to do is not sing an very subtle "ah" in the middle of two ns. she simply combined the vowels; it was easier to sing. Singers do this all the time.

"

Much like when they say "the beat of a pause" instead of applause in the title song for Applause

Mills is absolutely magnificent on that entire recording. But there is a word in the lyrics of Be A Lion that drives me mad. "Lightening" as opposed to "lightning". Lightening is defined as a drop in the level of the uterus during the last weeks of pregnancy as the head of the fetus engages in the pelvis!

She sings...

But not even lightening

Will be frightening
