Last fall I went to a taping of three shows for local public television at the NJ PAC. In one night they taped Jessie Mueller and Jarrod Spector (wonderful), Marilyn Maye (timeless) and Stephen Schwartz, which was the least enjoyable part of the evening.
He's at the piano and there were some good singers who sang his songs from Wicked, Pippin, Godspell, but it wasn't like "former Elphabas." And yes, he talked about the songwriting process of Wizard and I and a couple others which would have been more interesting had I not heard it a dozen times. He doesn't hesitate to join in the singing which is unfortunate. He opened our show by playing and singing "For Good" which almost ruined the song for me because his voice is quite unpleasant. Also it was the third segment they were taping and he got 3/4 through the song and said he had to start over (audible audience groan), which none of the other performers had done.
I guess that's not a glowing review. If you like his music and want to learn more about it then check it out. You aren't going to see big name people singing on stage though. Both of the people listed in that previous post were there and we had a few more people because it was close to NY.
