off topic sorry!! But i was seeing shrek 2 and these girls were changing their cellphone rings in the middle of the movie! It just pissed me off!
At "Talking Heads" Lynn Redgrave stopped in the middle of her monologue for someone whos phone was ringing from the 1st row. She said something like "If my mum were here she'd have you thrown out of the theatre!"
Daniel Davis told me for those audience members who dared to put their belongings on stage he like to see how far he could kick them to the back of the theatre!

TonyinATL, I like the way you think.

ditto.
The fella sitting next to me at Raisin in the Sun played the game on his cellphone through much of the second act. Ugh!!! His girlfriend told him to stop. She was obviously the theatregoer in the family.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!
Good for Whoopi!
Candy wrappers, cell phones, lushes, the theater just isn't as sacred to some as it should be. Sheesh. The ushers never do anything.
Oh and to top it off 12 people came into the show 30 min late and Whoopi offered a couple a pair so they could see it from the start of the show.
Whoopi- You should have taken the phone and stomped on it till it was in pieces.
SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE!

Considering Whoopi Goldberg's low-rent persona and her own consistently embarassing behavior, she's getting the brain-dead audience she deserves.
Music-
No need for that! It was a great show!

>>> Not that I'm personally recommending this handy device (it is illegal in the U.S.), I'm just pointing out its existence, in case anyone was interested...

When I went to Gem of the Ocean I had:
On my right: Two children who were there because those were the last tickets at the TKTS booth. Their mother was surprised that Mamma Mia was sold out and felt that Dracula was a great show with a wonderful score. The children were occassional candy crinklers but seeing as they were about 10 years too young for the show, I was willing to forgive them. Their mother was another story. She ate the most candy of all.
Behind me: One couple who were constantly repeating lines and explaining the show to one another, and another couple (Israeli, much to my consternation) who kept whispering, too.
Far to my left: A cell phone ignorer. You know the one- they forget to turn of their phone, and when it starts ringing during a climactic Phylicia Rashad monologue they pretend they don't hear it, waiting for it to ring its little electronic heart out.
And this was at an August Wilson play! I'm not talking about Beauty and the Beast here. I'd expect people with kids who don't know anything about theater etiquette there. But at Gem of the Ocean? Ugh.
Plum,
I loved Gem Of The Ocean. It was brilliant theater.
So was Whoopi.
STOP THE INSANITY PEOPLE.
PLEASE!
