They were having sound issues. The backing track when out during Charming, but it seemed fine after that. Grace came out and sang the beginning of In My House, and the sound went out completely. Her, Brittain, and Shoba (who was on for Natasha,) continued the show, singing as loud as they possibly could. Finally, they made an announcement that they would be stopping the show for a moment to fix the issue. They tried and it didn't work, finally they asked the cast to exit the stage. The audience was electric. We all started singing Balaga with our egg shakers and clapping and cheering. The sound was out for about 15-20 mins. The cast finally came back to the stage. Lucas goes, "You all remember what you last saw, right?" Everyone yelled no, do it again, and they did! They started from the beginning of In My House, and freakin killed it!! As a die hard Comet fan, it was an AMAZING moment and memory to be a part of!! They also took bows together without music, instead of their normal curtain call.

Excuse me - backing track? This show uses backing tracks?

Not for everything, but some of the music is electronic and needs a track. I cant imagine it's unusual or unexpected given the style of some of the music.

the show has many electronic parts that can not be made with normal instruments so a backing track is used for some parts like the beginning of the ball or somewhat in Charming
throwback to one of the final American Psycho performances I was at, where the Killing Spree track got all sorts of f*cked up - Benjamin Walker was literally standing at the edge of the stage asking to stop and they kept going. Glad Comet was able to turn it into a great night!

I was there as well and this is pretty much right. There were some issues in act 1 covered by the piano.
The mics cut out like this post said. Crowd in the rear mez was clapping and singing. Then the band in the salon started the wave, which went all the way around the theater.
When the cast came back out, they all got in to their places to start at the beginning of "My House". I was in the stage right banquettes, right across from Lucas. There was a bit of an awkward pause between the crowd applauding when the cast came back out and the show restarting. Lucas did yell "everyone remember what just happened?" I didn't hear anyone shout no. And then "In My House" started. Grace got a huge applause when the doors opened and after she finished saying "scoundrel". The sound system crackled a few more times but never went out again.
During the finale I could see the ensemble quietly going around whispering to each other, wasn't sure what it was about, but then at the end Lucas directed everyone to take a bow and skip the noal curtain call. I assume because at that point it was hitting the 3 hour mark. Felt bad for Shoba since she didn't get a moment of applause just for her
Found a video of Courtney Bassett's Instagram Live showing shots of the theater during the stop. The ensemble seems like a pretty cool group of people.

I wish I was there Amaleigh for the sound shutdown at GC. I was there the previous day and the sound was a bit creaky much like my arthritis. I would've loved the audience re-do and Balaga. They ought to do that for the last few days, if only for a laugh.![]()
Forgive me JBroadway, but " Not for everything, but some of the music is electronic and needs a track."
What does that mean? I'm not savvy in that area? My ignorance shows, but the only track I know is on CDs
Do they have to do something different. Is that what that awesome equipment does?.

The clapping and singing was mostly just a small group in the upper mez. I actually expected it to spread but it pretty much stayed there. The wave did go all the way around several times

There is electronic music playing during some songs, that no instrument in the orchestra could play. It starts when Anatole shows up. The best example I can think of is the last 10ish seconds of the first act. If you watch the bandleader/piano player you can see him hit a button to start that end sequence if you watch him
