Well I'm actually glad to hear that she's not directing. Tom Hanks is being suggested as Herbie.

Mike Nichols should direct
Love the Portman suggestion and actually think Hanks is a good Idea for Herbie

The hysterical Cole Escola's tweet re Barbra directing herself in it:
"I'm glad Gypsy will finally be done with an all beige palette and extreme soft-focus like it was meant to be seen."

Can Rose only be shot from her left side? Otherwise La Strisand can't/wont.
LOVE the idea for Goldie, Genna, and Susan as the stripper trio but I'd go w Goldie for Tessie and Genna as Electra

Another role that Loretta Swit was passed over on.
Sad. Terribly sad.

Posted: 1/6/11 at 2:28pmYeah, I thought of Natalie Portman instead of Anne Hathaway. Portman would be ideal, but she's also almost 30 and from what I understand, she wants to leave little girl roles behind (which Louise is for most of the show). She'd still be excellent though.

Portman would be divine, as would Hathaway.
Regardless of Babs' age, she looks fantastic and, I think, will be fantastic.
Look like Joel Silver is in talks to direct: http://www.rttnews.com/Content/EntertainmentNews.aspx?Section=2&Id=1521241&SM=1

My 2 cents:
Streisand is one of the greatest talents. I've always thought so. Her voice, her charisma on camera - unrivaled.
That being said, this just doesn't sit well with me. I'm always defending actors who look a certain age whether or not they ARE that age. Like some of the kids on Glee or going back to 90210 or Grease or even Rebel Without A Cause... I can buy them as high school. 10 or so years older than the part you are playing. But a woman who looks around 60 just shouldn't be playing this part. Unless, they alter the story and she becomes Grandma Rose.
As much as I love Streisand, I fear this project. I have to trust that she wouldn't be ridiculous enough to think that a movie-going audience would believe her in a role as a mom to teenagers.
She SHOULD be doing the musical adaptation of Sunset Boulevard (which is one of the greatest film noirs of all time). That role fits and it and she would be epic.

Is it just me or does that sound like a murder/suicide threat?

LOL... yes! You just totally cracked me up, PalJoey! It does sound quite ominous. Laurents certainly is using whatever time he has left on this Earth to keep his work alive.
