Studio 54

Hey folks

Ive always wanted to go to Studio 54 (more because i was a fan of the club and the era) but every time i have been in NY ive either not had chance or not wanted to see the show that was playing (if one was playing)

Im just wondering if anyone has any pics of the auditorium
Have they got rid of all traces of the iconic club (i hope not)

xx

Nothing that would give you any idea it was the iconic club it was exsists now!
Gorgeous theatre tho.
Its been beautifully restored.
Foyer areas are stunning.
Try taking a picture tho and the door man will rip your head off!

I always wish that Studio 54 would be turned into either a 1970s museum or a disco museum. Or a Studio 54 museum.

'Cabaret' at Studio 54.
Its very similar in design, shape of auditorium to Londons Dominion tho on a slightly smaller scale! Thats the closest i can think of as an example for you that you know.

The only thing that makes it still represent that it was once a club are the bar in the mezz section, the leopard carpet & the large woman's bathroom + the one (or two?) bathroom that is basically next to the stage!

re: Studio 54

It did begin as an opera house and theater BEFORE it was a night club. So it's going back to its roots.

re: Studio 54

Oh yeah i know it was a failed Opera House during many of its incarnations but it seemed to be most succesful as a club, it would just be nice to see the club in all its glory

re: Studio 54

Too bad-youve never been to Studio 54. The theater has this some sort of decandence feel to it. But definitely it needs MAJOR RENOVATION inside.. the ceilings are very dark (look like it came from candle's fumes), paint are not visible anymore and some of the intricate carvings are damage. The two intricate renaissance style box seats (where orchestra plays) was removed and changed into a scaffolding like structure during THE RITZ. I saw SUNDAY in THE PARK and it looks like they never put it back! I would take photos of the lobby and the stairs (but not the stage of course) but Roundabout is VERY funny about taking photos~even the box office too, basically the only way you cant take photos is the OUTSIDE! that's it! they do that at American Airlines (Selwyn) too!

Ha, the doorman flipped out on me when I tried to take a pic of where the box office is when I picked up my SITPWG tickets.

Wicked-Beast4 -thats exactly what happened to me BUT i was standing there with my good friend Jenna Russell and he still went into a major rage at which she just laughed in his face and we both walked away. At no time did he NOT know who she was-2 seconds before this we had walked out of the auditorium with the stage manaager!!!! What a ****!

Can you see the room where Liza sniffed coke off of Baryshnikov's chest and Elizabeth Taylor and Betty Ford drank highballs and laughed like school girls?

Beautiful theater that would be a knockout if it were renovated, cleaned & repainted . Start with repairing the proscenium where several sections are missing.

The restoration fees they charge are obviously not going to the upkeep of the theater.
