THE BOY FROM OZ - mostly because it was so surprising after the minimalism of everything that had preceded it.

and if you want to talk about most terrifying staircase, the one in the Roundabout Follies revival. I was clenching my arm rest as those poor ladies were navigating it in "Beautiful Girls".

And what about those amazing costumes coming down those stairs in BFO?

The Dreamgirls staircase was cool with the lights matching the use of the stairs (if I remember correctly), and Will Rogers Follies had wonderful dancers working on those stairs.

Alas, I did not see Man of La Mancha.

Sunset Boulevard - creates the atmosphere in the Hollywood mansion effectively

Man of La Mancha - almost sculpture-like in structure

The Boy from Oz - which came first ( the logo or the set?) - stunning backdrop for Peter/Hugh and the cast in the show's finale

Not a true staircase, but hte ramp in M-Buttfly was great...

I remember Carol Channing on the stairs in the 80s revival of Hello Dolly. The red dress, her crazy hair... I guess it does rate high in staircase moments. :)

I agree with all the staircases already said (ie. phantom, 42nd st, ect) but i thought the Nine's (revival) winding staircase was pretty cool...even though it wasn't big and grand like Phantom's. Now every time i see a winding staircase like that, i think of Nine.

i love the staircase in 42nd street, and i would in bfo if it wasnt so out of place with the rest of the sets in the show

Thanks for mentioning Annie. When the original production played on Broadway, the staircase in Warbuck's mansion was quite effective. The tour staircase was not grand at all. I believe it consisted of a couple of steps!!

Absolutely Man of La Mancha and Assassins.
The staircase in BFO nearly blinded me with all the bright whiteness in the scene.
