RAGTIME was to run for three weekends in July for free, in the outdoor Starlight Theater in Gillson Park, which usually books shows such as HELLO DOLLY, SHOWBOAT and STATE FAIR.
What do you think?
Edit: Oops, I'm a day behind the other threads on this (see LizzieCurry below).

Wow.
I can understand why, but wow.

I'm surprised that this would happen in Wilmette. It's an educated, affluent suburb on the North Shore.
It's a part of our history. You can't enlighten without the truth. And to try to 'disneyfy' it, is appalling IMHO. Thank goodness they weren't given permission to do so.
What a shame: for the actors AND the community.

I agree. This is ridiculous. It's reflective of, and set in a time of history where (unfortunately) that word was used. And it's appalling that some people don't realize that. It is in no way reflective of what the writers think today.
You wouldn't take that word out of BIG RIVER, and you shouldn't even have to ask to take it out of RAGTIME.
Does nobody ever READ these shows bvefore they approve them?
Certainly a sign of the times. A sad sign.
How utterly stupid.
The PC Police are at it again.
Have they burned all the books in the town that have the n word in them too?
