Sueleen's Review of Review Threads

Why do people feel the need to start their own review thread for shows that already have one? Do you think your opinion is more important than anyone else's? Why can't we just have one review thread for each show? You know, sort of like, "The Official Color Purple Review Thread" where anyone who has seen the show can post thier reviews. I think it is just a tad egotistical.

And honestly, who wants to scroll through 24 longass reviews of any show in order to find the review written by the only person whose reviews may interest you?

I like it! That's my new philosophy. But can't we call it "thoughts and opinions" and then use the "review" thread for the professional print, web and tv reviews. Just my 2 cents on "reviews".

smartpenguin---you have so much more than that!

Honestly---I don't mind it either way. It would be nice to have one thread for anything about any given subject, but that isn't realistic.

I say "post 'em" if you want. Add to someone else's post if you want. Read 'em if you want. Avoid 'em if you want.

That pretty much covers your options on a public forum message board.

I agree with this, sort of. I just think that it's weird that reviews are the exceptions of the "Search before you start a new topic or die!!!" rule. It's not a HUGE deal now, but it defintiely will be when something like the Rent movie is released nationwide if we have 897293874923734 threads of individual user reviews.

But if they are all in one place you will avoid having to repeat yourself or provide links to so-and-so's review or miss someone's great review just because they did not feel the need to put their name on the thread title.

I would just add if you hate them, post that too. (As part of Best12's "add to someones's post if you want")

Just don't be surprised when people disgree with you and you are golden.

I probably agree more with Rath on this one, I'd rather see one review by say "I heart Justin Timberlake" that I can avoid and a seperate one by "I almost know what I am talking about" that I can read and disagree with rationally.

I've done both - added to someone else's review thread after I myself saw a show, and, maybe twice, started my own. I do prefer knowing who's written the review before I have opened the thread, and if there is only one thread for every review, that is a big waste of time for scrolling.

But my point is how do you know someone whom you respect has not added a review to the thread that has somebody's name in the subject line that you don't respect?

Maybe we could get Rob to create a user review page where posters can submit their own reviews for shows. You would hava main page for each show and then you could click the hyperlink of each users name to access their review. It would make it much easier to find reviews, and you could still start a thread to let people know you wrote it with a hyperlink...

I see your point, but I kinda agree with Rath--if it's someone whose opinion I respect, I'll read, otherwise, I won't. It's the "consider the source" mentality.

I'll be posting a Sweeney review tomorrow so I apologize to all those who think I'm full of sh!t, which is no doubt everyone.
