We have an unusual amount of really good singers both male and female, so preferably a show with a lot of leads or supporting cast. Also, the show needs an ensemble so not many are cut. I'm having a hard time finding a show that meets this criteria that is not really crappy. Les Mis was done last year, so that is out of the question. Thanks for any suggestions! :)
Kiss Me Kate
Anything Goes
Rags
Ragtime (if you have the diversity)
Once on This Island
The Pajama Game
City of Angels
Grand Hotel
OKALHOMA!, perhaps? A lot of lead and supporting roles that require strong singing, it's a great show that's not too difficult technically.
I second the Pajama Game. Lots of leads, and all of them interesting, quirky characters. And great music for chorus. Always my first vote for a school show.

Children of Eden is a great choice for a high school. There are plenty of chances to showcase numerous students, and the ensemble can be as big as you want it to be.
My Alma mater did The Wedding Singer a few months ago, and although they really didn't have great singers everything else was excellent.

Last year my school did Thoroughly Modern Millie.
I second Grand Hotel. (There's a few clips of a high school production floating around YouTube).
The only other show coming to my mind right now is Godspell (which can have a larger or smaller ensemble, depending on what the director wants).
"Yes, the brutalities of progress are called revolutions. When they are over, men recognize that the human race has been harshly treated but it has moved forward." - Les Miserables
Did any one see the new MTI website?
I can't believe that they're releasing Spring Awakening!
All these are great suggestions! Other limitations for us include no diversity (other wise Ragtime would be amazing) and very limited dancing abilities. Does Pajama Game require lots of dance?

SEUSSICAL or Beauty and the beast or RENT (if you can do it) would work well with your restrictions

singer, I just saw the new MTI website. I kind of like the new layout. But I cannot believe all the shows they just got: Xanadu, Spring Awakening, 13, Gepetto & Son's. I can imagine that a few will be added when more shows close in January. I cannot wait to see a few of these restricted productions performed by high schoolers.
Pajama Game does require dancing usually. Oklahoma has a ballet sequence and needs trained dancers. Millie also needs dancers (basically entire cast..)Once on This Island needs dance (the opening number is 'we dance'....)
Children of Eden is a great suggestion
Also adding:
Anne of Green Gables (MTI version)
Cinderella (Rodgers & Hamm)
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Urinetown
Fiddler on the Roof (needs one good dancer (ballet))
Carousel
How to Succeed...Trying
Once Upon a Mattress (you can add in a chorus...but there is some dance that can be made simple)
Hope this helps! let us no what you end up doing!

Brigadoon.
West Side Story.
All Shook Up
My top 3 choices would be:
Grand Hotel
City of Angels
All Shook Up
West Side Story requires extremely good dancers...especially boy dancers...so i bet that wont work
ONCE ON THIS ISLAND
or Urinetown
Once on this Island is dance heavy.
What about Sweeney Todd? The kids would probably love to do it because of the recent movie.
Does Mack and Mable have dance?
Also, look at Bat Boy and bare: a pop opera. They are more PG 13 or R rated though if that affects your decision
Uggh, please don't do Urinetown! Regardless of the quality of the show, every single high school has been doing that for the last three years and it is getting so obnoxious.
i agree with all of you. i will add.
guys & dolls(close to nyc might not get the go, same with west side story), damn yankees, my hs did peter pan lie 10 yrs ago, king & i, oilver, the music man, bye bye birdie, the wiz/wizard of oz, and how to succed in business without really trying.
