Phantom, I divide my time between LA and London so I'm here at least half the year - and yes I saw ITW a couple of days ago. It's unfair of me to critique it because so many things went wrong, from staticky microphones to a loudspeaker outside the theatre announcing the rules for a 5 K race at precisely the most sensitive moment in the show - the death of the Baker's Wife!!
Under the circumstances, "magic" was hard to come by. I will say I did not care for the conceit of framing the story with the schoolboy narrator who turns out to be the Baker's son. It was logically inconsistent and undermined the dark message of the piece, giving it a kind of Wizard of Oz there's-no-place-like-home ending. I know I'm in the minority here but that's how I felt.
Faced with these Loreleis, what man can moralize!
