Who else has this? I just got it today, finally. How much will I love it?

I really love the older Sweeney Todd DVD...

I watched it last night and still amazed everytime I see that finale. If I ever saw it revived on broadway, I think the experience would just be too unreal. Bernadette and Mandy were a brilliant pairing and although they were great, I'm glad they were just kept as George and Dot forever in my mind together, instead of pulling a BSM and Marin Mazzie.
Dana Ivey, Barbara Byrne, all of them were just perfect. I love this show too much. The dvd is incredible

I wish they would have developed the second act more. The first act had all this story, score, etc. Then the second act comes along and it's kind of like they ran out of ideas so they decided to end it. But, great show otherwise.

The show is amazing. It took a few viewings to really get into and enjoy, and now I watch it quite frequently.

I'm not surprised.

They say that George only lives with tramps.

I daresay I'm one of the few people who enjoys the second act just as much, if not more, than the first act.

I love this DVD so freaking much! It documents so many great actors in it. I, personally, liked the first act much better. Although, the beginning of Act II and the end of it are my favorite sections of the show.

I love the second act! It is so simplistic and yet carries its own storyline. Without it, there would be no complement to the first act. The two together makes a 'complete picture' I think. The first act is great, but I think it has a lot in it that when the second act comes people are satisfied and find it lacking. However, if the whole soldier bit was cut away and some trimming to the first act, they would go together a little bit more nicely. Alas, I can't complain, I love it the way it is.

Having seen the original on Broadway three times (those were the days, my friend), I have only one small quibble with the video.

One of my favorite moments in the first act finale is when the tree that George "banished" in the opening moments of the show, and that his mother keeps asking about, comes back and she sits under it with her nurse.

Due to the panning of the camera in that number, I lost one of my favorite little moments in the show.

Fortunately, the version of the finale that was broadcast on the Tony Awards that year catches it.

Aside from that, it is a treasured record of one of the greatest shows that I have ever seen.

Huzzah! Then I'm not alone. I feel as if I care more for George in the second act, whereas in the first act, I am much more sympathetic towards Dot. Having them both come together again in the show's finale brings it full circle - I don't understand the detractors who say SITPWG should have been a one act show.

Slightly on-topic - I should be writing an art history paper instead of combing the board over.

Of course the first time I saw the show I was young and loved the first act, but found the second act boring and nonsensical. The older I got, however, the more it grew on me. Now I have to say that I prefer the the second act to the first. I just find it to be more emotionally resonant.

I Wish... Madeline Kahn could have played the Witch in Into the Woods. She would have rocked!
