Sunset Blvd Original Vs Revival

I just saw the wonderful revival of Sunset Boulevard and have two questions for those who saw the original.

1) Was the ghost of young Norma in the original production?

2) After Norma sings "As If We Never Said Goodbye" did the other actors applaud in the original? In the revival Glenn stopped the show with this song and it was amazing to see the other actors applauding her.

No, there was no "ghost Norma" in the original production, and yes, the actors applauded after "As If We Never Said Goodbye."

I think this production is much better than the original, but sometimes the "young" Norma doesn't need to be on stage in my point of view. Great idea to see her in "the greatest star" of all...but sometimes her presence is pointless to me.
