Thats the show where Jean Arthur (always a little nuts) stopped during the first scene and introduced the cast to the audience and told them how she adored them all, and then said she couldn't do the play and walked out.
Gotta be one of the fastest closing shows in Broadway history, and definitely the fastest closing star vehicle.

THE DAY JEAN ARTHUR SAT DOWN TO DISH
It was 11:00 A.M. on a Sunday in May, 1972. "Do you drink in the morning, Mr. Flatley?" Jean Arthur asked me as she reached into a kitchen cabinet for a fifth of vodka. The notoriously shy actress needed that drink because for the first time in years, she had agreed to go up close and personal with the press. This interview appeared later that month in The New York Times. --Guy Flatley

Posted: 7/20/05 at 2:39pmIt's funny RATH though, occassionally you'll see a bio in a playbill of someone who survived CARRIE or MOOSE MURDERS or BOBBI BOLAND, and they usually wear it like a badge of honor! A true test of theatrical survival and as my best friend says -- "if you're going to be in something bad, be in something EXCEPTIONALLY bad."

Thanks so much for the link to that article, gymman!

I have to say, even though I didn't see the show, that I couldn't figure out how she "bared her naked self" in the show when she wore:
A: Feather Boas
or
B: A Cheesy Inflatable Corvette
I think we heard the story enough to know that her father was an alcoholic and she screwed herself out of real fame by being too demanding about her pay.
We got it from her book, her interviews, her 'made-for-TV-movie'...
But to bring a vehicle like this to Broadway and expect the critics to be nice to you? I don't see it.
Maybe she should have stuck to more upbeat material…
'THIGH-MASTER, THE MUSICAL'
And, NO, the signed program won't be worth crap, unless she dies in some strange and horrible accident....preferably in front of an audience.

I will honestly say it is not closing based on the material.
People see shows no matter what...especially if a "star" is in it.
I think Summers doesn't have a large enough fanbase willing and/or able to see the show.

During the DRS opening, Joyce said she had Bway plans.
Now her I would see!
