Does the current run of Swan lake have a live orchestra? The tour in the UK, just before it left for Broadway, was performed with a recorded soundtrack.

No live orchestra, and it's a bone of contention for some. Someone was handing out flyers outside of the City Center today pointing out that this production uses a recording, so the producers are not really giving you the version of the show that won 3 Tony Awards as they claim. I just got back from the show, and didn't have an issue with the fact that the music was recorded.

I just posted in the other thread. I seem to remember the first time it toured it had a live orchestra.

The lack of a live orchestra has suddenly made me no longer interested.

I just saw it this evening, and while it would have been nice to have a live orchestra sound, it doesn't make the piece any less powerful! It was one of the most magnificent ballets I have seen! Go see it!

bschneid76 careful you don't get shot down, people who know it's not a ballet like to pick on people who don't!!

When I saw it, the lack of orchestra made no emotional difference but I just hate that in the current climate, when it is so hard to get jobs, Matthew Bourne makes it even harder for musicians by abandoning them in his shows (it was the same case for his newest - Dorian Gray.)
