re: Sweeney Todd Movie

The original production was scary. Truly.

re: Sweeney Todd Movie

I agree w/ ScaryWorhal. The only moment that actually scared me was when ****SPOILER****

thouring George Hearn's Sweeney discovers the truth about the Beggar Woman and screams "Oh god!" -- or whatever it was. Scared the SH*T out of me. That's also the only version I've seen.

**END SPOILER**

What I love about Sweeney is not that it's terrifying, but that it's a damned good story: arguably perfectly written, extremely compelling, and complex. That's why I say as long as Burton keeps the story in tact, we'll be okay.

re: Sweeney Todd Movie

I think Burton is the right director for it, but I always pictured someone older than Depp as Sweeney.

re: Sweeney Todd Movie

I seem to remember that Depp's singing voice was dubbed in Cry Baby, so I am not certain that he will be up to the vocal demands of this role. Admittedly, Cry Baby was not especially strenuous so that would seem to bode ill for this production. Acting wise, I think he would be an interesting choice, but I am really more interested in who they are looking at for Mrs. Lovett.

re: Sweeney Todd Movie

Burton is a spotty director. Hit and miss. It helps when there is a strong story and I am sure his visuals would be superb. I just hope this doesn't mean Helena Bonham Carter will be Lovett.
Lucy, perhaps. Also with Depp as Todd it makes the chances of Streep being Lovett a long shot. Pity.
PEACE.

Who would play Tobias? Paul Reubens?

re: Sweeney Todd Movie

Tho makeup can do much, I'm afraid that Sueleen is right. Streep is the only Lovett I covet, very sad.

maybe, maybe, maybe...we know she wants to do it...how can you deny her?

I have the DVD of that, and I can see how some scenes might have been scary, particularly that bit in the asylum done completely with shadows, but I don't think Burton will have any problem topping that.
