I'm auditioning for the ensemble of Sweeney Todd on April 3rd. It's a community theatre production out here in San Diego. I plan on singing the reprise of 'If I Can't Love Her' from Beauty and the Beast, but maybe not. Does anyone have any advice in regard to what I should sing or anything like that? Has anyone here auditioned for Sweeney before? Thanks for the help...

Here's the website for the theatre company: http://www.starlighttheatre.org/

The problem with IF I CAN'T LOVE HER is that it's such a poorly written and musically boring song. Surely you can find something legit that has little bit more listener appeal going for it.

That's what I was thinking, but my sheet music options are very limited. Besides Beauty and the Beast I have the song books for Jekyll & Hyde, CATS, Joseph...Dreamcoat(which I was in, and played Joseph), and The Sound of Music. I don't really want to sing anything from Joseph because I'm sick of Close Every Door, and The Sound of Music has never really been one of my favorite musicals...I really don't know what I should sing.

Although CATS is one of my favorites, nothing in CATS would work for an audition. (at least for a guy...) I can't picture a guy pulling off Memory. Girls have it easy. There are so many great, great songs for a girl to sing. For a guy it's a bit more difficult.... I don't know what to sing! Ahhh!!!!

Unless I splurge, spend some money and do a song from RENT, but that's only if I feel like making a total ass of myself...but, I do that by walking out of the door every morning so maybe I should.... Updated On: 3/19/04 at 01:42 AM

the song "rademus' letter" from aida has worked very well for me in the past, i cant do it like adam pascal or anything, but it is short and sweet and effective, and there is a lot of good stuff for auditions in the aida music book, even though you'd have to just do one verse of a lot of them because they are duets.
"rademus' letter" is a good one, though i cant say i know exactly what your voice type is from knowing that you've done joseph. im no expert, but i reccomend the song.

Also from AIDA is the song "Another Pyramid" that is quite fun and effective

BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"
