Posted: 5/18/11 at 10:39pmEh, it just looks like one of those boring "find the hidden object" games. Pretty sure they made a Les Miz one a while back. A game where you get to run around slitting throats, now that would be awesome.

Posted: 5/18/11 at 10:55pmI got really excited until I saw that it was a hidden object game. I hate those. (I love mystery computer games, but all they have these days are those stupid hidden object ones.)

It is an uber lame hidden puzzle "casual game"--a shame as the story could be a great, old style adventure game (I don't plya a lot of video games but grew up obsessed with classic adventure games like Sierra's Gabriel Knight trilogy--the creator of which, Janes Jensen, has a low budget, but great, new game Grey Matter out).
You used to be able to, and prob still can, play a free hour online... And they obviously were inspired almost completely byt he musical and no other version...

I posted about it in another video game thread here, but you can download a play for an hour here:

If you have time to burn I recommend trying it out just to see how terrible the knock-off Sondheim music is

I'm actually a player of those "lame hidden object games" but mostly cos I like the puzzle thst are required to procede. The developer for this one tho is pretty lame. AND they were def "inspired" ( or ripped off) the Sondheim version . I did the trial but it was so bad I didn't finish.
There is a Phantom of the Opera on that isn't too bad. ( so I've heard) BigFish is a pretty good site for these type of games. Just don't expect this bunch to be part of their demographic( female middleaged, w health problems/mostly grown kids) but they are world wide and growing so somebody out there must be doing something right!

Posted: 5/19/11 at 2:16pmThat "faux Sweeney" score and singing are pretty funny. I just watched the game trailer without downloading it, and, while it's not full-on plagiarism, it's clearly a direct nod to the film musical.

I would love it if the reported lameness of this version inspired someone to make a really AWESOME Sweeney Todd video game.

I keep playing them because developers just aren't putting out many true adventure games anymore (Gabriel Knight was fantastic, by the way, though I enjoyed the tongue-in-cheek Monkey Island series the most). BigFish is porting these to the iPad at a rate of one new game every few days, so clearly they are selling a ton of them. It's just too bad the market isn't bigger for games with more/better puzzles and fewer screens that I just tap on like a morse code operator until I find all the stupid hidden items.
