It's driving me insane that they don't have a cast for the Sweeney movie yet and i know they will sadly end up casting big hollywood names but i made a dream cast list:
Patti LuPone- Mrs. Lovett (the most dimensonal actress to play the role ever, she is beyond fantastic. i cannot express my love for her and how she changed my life in this role)
George Hearn -Sweeney (in my opinion he is the best Sweeney ever, so much emotion in each and every line and a voice to shake the heavens)
Manoel Feliciano - Toby
Davis Gaines - Anthony (yes i know he's old but he was brilliant in the concert version and his voice gives me chills everytime he sings Johanna...so much emotion)
Johanna- I have yet to find a Johanna I really like, Heidi Grant has a beautiful voice but looks nothing like the character. I loved Lauren Molina but she didn't quite do it for me
Victoria Clark or Diana DiMarzio - Beggar Women
Judge Turpin - I don't know i hate his character so i never really pay attention to him lol
Tim Curry - The Beadle (i can definately see him as the beadle there is a bit of a resemblance between the '82 beadle and Tim)
As for Pirelli I don't quite know because it depends if they would want to cast a women or a man. I loved the guy from the '82 dvd and Donna Lynne Champlin is phenomenal.
ok so basically it's a combination of the '82 dvd, the 2001 concert version and the revival. If this were a perfect world they would cast these people
so tell me what ya think and post your cast lists
i thought johnny depp was interested in this movie to be in it...
Why would you want a movie with virtually the same leads as the already available concert version?
Its probably not going to happen. Mendes dropped the project and although there were rumors Burton was going to take it over, he has shown more of an interest to another movie called Belive It or Not. Personally though, I seriously doubt that movie will happen as well.
I would go with Lauren Molina because she doesn't play her like a total retard.
HAHAHAHA!
That just made my day!

i think they'd try to have more Hollywood stars in the roles...
Catherine Zeta-Jones, or Diane Keaton as Mrs. Lovett, maybe?
But it's oh so true. The movie is still listed in imdb. I hope it happens
I know it is still listed but alot of stuff has been listed and never come into their own. Remember, this was lsited when Mendes was still on the project and he has long since dropped it. This will be aproduction left in limbo, and honestly, it will be for the better. do you really want another RENT on your hands?
The screenplay by John Logan though is brilliant. Not that they don't need a great director at the helm, but they have a very solid template to start with. It makes a lot of changes from the original stage script, btw.
Perhaps if DREAMGIRLS is a hit, this project will pick up steam again, but it's a pretty tough sell to mainstream film audiences.

i think it'd actually do pretty well
it'd be a thriller sort of movie, and i think audiencs would like that
they could make it more gory too, so it could be a horror film as well
maybe they could show people being sliced up into pies...
The music is not accessible to mainstream audiences. And Sondheim fans will freak out at how much of it has been cut in the proposed script. They are probably wise to put the project on hold for now.
lol- Very true Michael. Whenever I share the plot with my friends I always get an eye roll and an, "Ew." Cannibalism just isn't very marketable. Plus....I will speak personally and say that if any song was cut, I would scream for days on end.
If Patti was in the movie, I don't think I could bare to sit through it. It was hard enough to watch her emotionless disposition on stage, much less on a screen. Everyone else in the current cast is amazing though.
There is no way that Patti LuPone or probably anyone from the revival would even be featured for the film. Toby, btw, is a child in the Logan script.
Where did you see the Logan scrpt? Thanks!
is the Logan script available for the public to read?
or did you use your 'connections' to get a copy of it?
I had access to it in a job I'm currently working on - it's not available to the public, best of my knowledge.

It was just my dream cast for the movie. I know that wouldn't actually happen but for me that would be amazing.
I didn't know they would cut songs out unless it was the judge's johanna so yea, i would much rather them then not make a movie. i didn't even think about that. However if they do it right i'm all for it i just hope it wouldn't flop like the other musicals which i personally liked besides Rent.
The Judge's "Johanna" is actually in Logan's script! A lot of musical sequences like "The Pirelli Contest" were turned into dialogue - and several songs, like "Green Finch," "Wait," and "Epiphany" were gone altogether.

O_O
How can you possibly cut Epiphany? That's just wrong.
You can't do musical numbers that operatic in a naturalistic film. It wouldn't work.
That's pretty much the same as the concert version, isn't it?
I think Angela Lansbury was a much better Mrs. Lovett, and while I love George Hearn he can't hold a candle to Len Cariou.
i think they should get ME to direct the film. it would be amaaaahzing

I don't like th ehwole johnny depp idea unless he sings really well, and katherine zeta jones seems like an interesting idea for lovett.
