Is anyone else going?
I wasn't even aware that we got national tours here on Long Island but opened my local newspaper and saw and ad for it, I just snagged a second row, centre front orchestra seat. I'm so excited!
If anyone else wants tickets, it's...

Posted: 1/29/09 at 9:45pmI am from Long Island but I can't see it at the Tilles Center due to the fact that I am in college. However, I am very happy that the same tour is coming to my college town in the middle of February. I am very much looking forward to seeing this particular production of Sweeney even though it is equity. The first and only time I saw it on Broadway was the day after I found out that I needed glasses and before I got them. I was in the mezz via TKTS and my eyes were trying to focus themselves so that I could see and I ended up having a headache trying to watch the show during the first act. In the second act, I closed my eyes and just listened to the story via the music. I thought that that was a better way to enjoy the show since it is mostly if not all sung through and the music for the show really tells the story. I wanted to go back and see it but I never gout around to doing so before it closed.

I just checked the site, we're also getting Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Spelling Bee. Why I never knew the tours came around here, I will never know, but I'm happy I know now.
Winston, I'm happy you get to see it again.

My problem with the Tilles Center is that the acoustics are dreadful. It's like attending a performance in a warehouse--tin roof and all!

Posted: 1/29/09 at 10:03pmDollypop, I agree with you. The only events I have ever been there for were for both of my brother's high school graduations. This is because a lot of schools on Long Island rent out the Tilles Center to have the graduation at, and the acoustics there were in fact dreadful.

Posted: 1/29/09 at 10:11pmI was there a few years back on New Year's eve for the philharmonic(sp?), I don't remember the acoustics that well but I hope I'm close enough that it's not that bad.

Posted: 1/29/09 at 10:40pmWinston, this tour is NON-Equity.

Posted: 1/30/09 at 12:00amYes, I know that the tour is non equity. What's your point. I am under the impression that the equity tour of the Doyle became non equity and that is what I am going to be seeing next month. Trust me, The Garde Arts Center in New London, CT could never house an equity tour.

The Mrs. Lovitt, Carrie Cimma seems phenomenal, they have videos on the site...

Are you kidding me? That woman is awful!
And I have no idea why she has Pink's haircut. ALso, why is Judge Turpin about 30 years old?
Ah, well. It's non-Equity.

Posted: 1/31/09 at 12:20am^ Because these aren't the real people. It's a recreation put on by patients & staff in Tobias' Asylum.

I don't really sense any emotion from this cast.
I can't put my finger on what's lacking.
I just don't sense a 'connection' between them
and their material. Just my .02.

I wouldn't judge too much from promo videos. Plus a sense of detachment could really work in this version of Sweeney because of the fact that they're all supposed to asylum inmates acting out the story as opposed to living the story.
I'm looking forward to it a lot more now actually. Watching those videos reminded me how much I really miss this show. And I don't have to travel across the country like I've done the past two years to see the tour, so that's a plus!
