Hey, i've seen the sweet charity movie and the revival and i have to say that the ending was the stupidest thing i've seen...oscar falls in love with her despite the fact that shes a dance hall hostess but at the end decides to leave her, and the ending message of hope is even worse,
i heard the original ending was even worse

The show isn't suppose to have a happy ending. Fosse wanted the ending to be real, he didn't want it to end up as a fairytale.
You can view an alternate happy ending on the Charity DVD, and it's just not the same. Without the hearbreak of Charity ending up alone once more - the show wouldn't be the same. Because the whole point is - no matter how many times she gets dumped - she can always pick herself up and try again.. (I'm The Bravest Individual Reprise.)

The original ending is - he dumps her - pushes her into the lake - she gets out of the lake. A fairy appears - and she thinks its her fairy godmother - the fairy says "Tonight, it will all happen tonight" Charity gets excited and asks what will happen - and the Fairy says 'Watch the Good Fairy tonight 8 oclock - CBS'

I'm not crazy about that ending.
