The Sweetland Belt Technique is an innovative approach to singing that keeps the vocal cords healthy, the voice fit and flexible enough to sing any style from pop, rock and country to musical theatre and opera.
The technique was developed in the 1960’s by a man in California named Lee Sweetland. He developed the technique while teaching a young girl at the time, Kay Cole (the original Maggie in A Chorus Line), as well as regularly consulting with a well-known Los Angeles Ear, Nose and Throat specialist, to insure that the components were safe and effective. Mr. Sweetland never documented his work in books, articles or any other written form. Instead, the only way to understand his technique is to hear the difference in singers and singing quality. His son Stephen Sweetland currently teaches in NYC and has the most compelling number of professionals working on Broadway today.
Tony Richards learned the technique from Lee Sweetland, is endorsed by Stephen Sweetland, and is now accepting students to work with him at the Camelot Building located at 301 W 45th Street at 8th Street. He possesses an uncanny ability to immediately diagnose vocal needs and is able to make adjustments accordingly. Despite the fact that the Sweetland Belt Technique is universally proven to be effective by the singers who use it and the doctors who observe its amazing ability to rectify vocal problems, many teachers unfamiliar with the technique (particularly in academia) discount it and attempt to discredit any teacher or singer who uses the technique. Nevertheless, those professionals who are serious about wanting longevity in a musical theatre and/or singing career know the difference.
Students, professionals and teachers open to learning how their voice can improve and strengthen are encouraged to contact Tony. You may also visit http://mysite.verizon.net/tonyrichards for more details.
