"Boy George has already said he would be interested in writing another musical. I dont know why he wouldn't? This was a fine Score, & so what if he had some critics....who doesn't?"
True enough. But he has said himself that writing a musical score is not something you can just do, you have to be asked. But, which ever way you look at it, however fabulous the score, despite the Tony nominations, Taboo on Broadway is perceived as a huge flop, so I doubt he's expecting another invitation soon.

I'm not saying anyone is rolling out a Red Carpet for The Boy. I am saying this was a growing experience for him. What kind of world would it be if everyone just threw up their hands simply because they weren't at first embraced with a Freshman Effort

Can you call a 43 year old a "freshman"? I realise this was his first musical score for the stage, but he has been song writing constantly for himself and others, for 20 plus years, with little commercial support and exposure post Culture Club, so I doubt he'll throw in the towel just yet!
But I do still feel that the 'failure' of Taboo on Broadway, will seriously diminish any further opportunities in this particular genre, that might otherwise have come along, had the show been a success.

Surely this would count for a Freshman effort for a theater piece

Didn't Ms. O'Donnell get most of the flap for what was wrong with "Taboo?" That's at least how it seemed from all the press. Everyone said it was his score that made that show. Having seen it in both productions, I can say at least the Broadway production attempted a to tell us a story...however muddled it was.
I hope he's not too soured on Broadway.
TABOO OBC is the best cast I think I broadway musical has ever had to be honest...

hmmmmm...maybe i'm missing something. I didnt see the show, but i got the CD in yesterday. from the posts here, i was expecting to be blown away, but sadly i wasnt. I agree with whoever said that there are some really great songs and some real stinkers...and even the great ones (in my opinion, they are Petrified, Talk Amongst Yourselves, Stranger in this World, Il Adore, Love is a Question Mark, Come in from the Outside) dont really work as musical theater songs. as i was listening to it, it kept reminding me of a catalog show in the vein of Mamma Mia or Boy From Oz. i didnt feel that it was cohesive. perhaps it would have been better if i'd been able to see the show.
that said, the great songs i listed above, i REALLY like...of course Raul can do no wrong in my book--the man's phenomenal...sarah uriarte berry (and i'm sure i just murdred the spelling of her name) sings like a friggin angel--i wasn't familiar with her work before, but my gawd, stunning voice...i wish jeffery carlson had been given more to do vocally--i was quite impressed--such an interesting voice!!...liz mccartney kicked the **** out of her big number--love her for it!! so all in all, i dont think the CD is "INCREDIBLE!" but i do think it's good with some really nice things on it.
Dearest SweetCarolineFan...
Not all other people enjoyed TABOO. I tried. I really did, but it was a mess. Euan Morton and Raul Esparza were obvious standouts ... but the material just didn't work.
Do you really think that this is the best cast a Broadway musical has ever had? That's shocking to me.
Here are some of my "best (original) casts"...
RAGTIME
SWEENEY TODD
AVENUE Q
DREAMGIRLS
PASSION
GUYS & DOLLS (Nathan Lane, etc.)
THE PRODUCERS
I wouldn't even THINK to put TABOO anywhere near these casts.
Hugs...
yes i think so cuz taboo has a speacil meaning to me

I have tons of Cast recordings
Its no big deal if the TABOO FREAKS hold dear this score
EVERYTHING'S TABOO, as we like to say (winks to the Freaks)
mine finally arrived from DRG today, 9 days after being shipped, isn't that crazy? anyway, add me to the list of fans.
For people who said some of the songs were "stinkers" I must say I think that the score is excellent but then again I'm an extreme lover of the show. However, I will say for people who did not see it, "Ich Bin Kunst" is well recorded here but I don't think it can be fully appreciated without the visual because that scene, when done on stage, is absolutely excellent. As for "Genocide Peroxide" which I think someone mentioned earlier...I can't say anything other than that I love that because, well, it's Jeffrey Carlson.

I just received my copy the other day and I totally love the CD! I can't comment on the actual show because I didn't go to see it but the score for the show is absolutely wonderful!! The's the one constant positive from the critics -- most if not all agreed that Boy George wrote one of the best refreshing scores Broadway has seen years -- and I'm happy that he's in the running for Best Original Score ... good luck to him and all the nominees, should be a great show!

Does anyone know how old Sarah Uriate Berry is? Been trying everything on google, and cant seem to get a profile. Her voice is amazing !! What about Sarah as a replacement for Idina?
So I saw Taboo and I loved it. I laughed, I cried, whatever. So, that said...I must say I really love the recording as well...but is anyone else dissapointed with the Leigh Bowery numbers? I find the versions on the London cd to be much better...I know the not boy george man recorded Ich Bein Kunst...but I'll Have You All and Everything Taboo-well I find them to be MUCH better on the london cd...And I don't remember disliking them in the theater...aw well...perhaps that's just me.
KC
I am, actually. My friend asked me one day: "Do you think it's weird that the only songs I skip on the Taboo CD are the ones that Boy George (real life Boy George) sings?" I think he sounds a lot better on the London cd, too.

I got my CD about a week ago, and I just gotta say: "I love It!".
It's so sad they never really gave this show a chance.

CD Review: TABOO Original Broadway Cast Recording
My new favourite song is Fame Game. It's so catchy and it sends a wonderful message to all who crave the glory of fame and celebrity. I also love the "this sound system sucks..." from Marilyn It really stuck with me and I remember coming out of the theatre singing the chorus.
haha I love when Marilyn does that! I also love his "Now get out there, bitch and sing!"
