This is a tough one. I honestly dont know if it will run or not. Could it really be the next Rent that Rosie O'donnell is making it out to be or is it the next Dance of the Vampires?! Discuss.

Er, can't we wait until it's at least in previews...

Maybe Benzy should "get a clue", this time.

I'm honestly not sure. We'll just have to wait for previews.

It won't be a Dance of the Vampires but it will not be a Rent, I'm pretty sure on that. However, that depends on how big your gay following is over in NY. In London there weren't enough to keep it open, and it was only a 350 seater. BTW, for those thinking 'omg, is it a big camp spectacular', then I really don't know, I'm not too sure about its content. Some of the photos from the London production speak volumes:

Let's not forget it's a completely new book, and change of focus, with major changes from the London version.

It might have been camp, but it certainly wasn't big re: re: re: re: re: TABOO: Hit or flop? It was a tiny £600,000 production. Let's see what they can do with Rosies' $10m.

I think it's going to be a flop. It will last a couple months. If it beats DOTV, I'll be surprised. Even though I'm a fan of DOTV, I don't think Taboo will beat that.

interesting subject matter, but I will wait for it's previews, but it will NEVER beat DOTV, God, How I miss it, and Michael Crawford, has he come out of hiding yet?

I was talking to Cary Shields at some thing I had to go to when I was interning this summer, and he doesn't sound very optimistic...he said something like, "Well, it's going to close in two months and I'll come back here (Rent), my safety net!" (He was laughing when he said it :)) Updated On: 9/10/03 at 07:59 PM

"...at some thing I had to go to..."

It's just that kind of irrefutable detail that will be his undoing.

Chris Sieber was in the workshop so I guess if he invested his time in it, that says something about the show's quality.

This is preposterous!

How can anyone determine a show's virtues before it has been seen? This is like those Fundamentalist Christian groups who condemn a book, play or film before anyone has seen it. Remember the brouhaha over THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST and CORPUS CHRISTI?

Please allow the show to start its previews before you've determined its fate. Perhaps you shouldn't even post an opinion on it until you've SEEN it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Huh?

I had to go to an event while I was interning with Broadway this summer, Cary Shields was there, and he made that comment.

Also, HE WAS JOKING AROUND because he said he was really nervous about being in a new show and Rent IS his "safety net", since he's been working with the show for so long.

I think I'll see it...I'm not a Boy George fan, but I don't think that means anything.

Are the songs all Boy George songs or is it new music?

I enjoy the music from the London cast alot. It is fun.

But there are some really good theater names in this show.

Regarding the posting of Cary's comments? This is why actors have to be careful who they say things to, because their words are often posted on forums like this and taken out of context. It sounded as if he didn't have much faith in the show and predicted a closing, when it looks like he didn't intend the comment to be taken like that at all according to the follow up post. This is how rumors get started.

and why in the h*ll would people start trying to predict a hit or a flop when they have barely started rehearsals? Talk about jumping the gun.
