New York, New York is pretty enjoyable, especially if you're a fan of Liza's. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I remember thinking that it was rather long. It has some great musical numbers in it though (obviously)
The Lady From Shanghai is going to be on tomorrow at 6:30. Has anyone seen that?
Anyone watching the Nancy Drew mini-marathon? I think these movies are so charming, and Frankie Thomas sure was cute.
Can I just say how much I love TCM in HD now? Okay, not everything is in HD, but more and more of their programming is being offered in hi-def.
Just caught the tail end of "The Fountainhead" in HD. Black & white, from 1949. Wow.
The HD movies are becoming more prevalent, and I'm loving it. The titles are kind of random now, but they are showing more eye-popping vintage movies in high-definition, and they look incredible.
Just finished watching MGM's "A Date With Judy" with Jane Powell, Elizabeth Taylor, Wallace Beery, Carmen Miranda, Robert Stack, Scotty Beckett, and Xavier Cougat. This movie is not out on Blu-ray, but it looks ready to go. I could count the sequins in Carmen Miranda's dresses, but (thankfully) refrained from doing so.
Now, it's the quirky "Kind Hearts and Coronets" with the brilliant Alec Guinness playing seven different family members who are victims of murder. Very funny, and the image is so crisp and astounding in B&W. Wow.
I'm so glad they keep improving what they have and making these older films look even better than movies that are made today.
Summer Under the Stars
Looking forward to the showing of the underrated thriller “Night Watch” with Elizabeth Taylor on the 14th.
