THE AUDIENCE Tonight

I'm headed to THE AUDIENCE tonight sitting in the mezzanine row G. Are those good seats? Also, what did you think of THE AUDIENCE? I've heard mixed reviews, but this is my second to last chance to see Helen Mirren in that role. So I better take advantage of it while I can!!

THE AUDIENCE Tonight

I sat in the very last row of the mezzanine when I saw BRIDGES, and the view was great. I imagine the view from row G will be a good view. Enjoy!

I've seen the show three times (once from far orchestra right and twice from the last row of the left and right mezzanine). All good viewing points. The Schoenfeld is a good theater.

"Mostly, I loved the size of these people's emotions. Nobody has emotions this size anymore. Outsized emotions. Operatic emotions. Kushemski and Vanda are like Tristan and Isolde, they're Paolo and Francesca. Nobody's in total thrall like this anymore. Nobody's overcome by passion like this, or goes through this kind of rage." Thanks for the info. I'm in line for restroom at Dean and Deluca before going to the Drama Bookshop across the street, and two guys were in line that had just gotten back from AMAZING GRACE. They said it was too long at almost 3 hours but that it was good, very moving in the second act. It's in previews still, so maybe they will shorten it.

THE AUDIENCE Tonight

Here's my review of THE AUDIENCE. A fantastic experience. So glad I got to be a part of it.

This was the most fantastic, awesome play I've ever seen! I've seen 7 plays this year and one musical and this one was the best! too bad it is closing tomorrow, but it will still be playing in London with Kristen Scott Thomas. I can't quite put my finger on why I liked this play so much. I think it was because it made me forget for a little while, all the things that weigh on my mind (and there are lots). it made me feel that I was part of a family. Helen Mirren did an EXCELLENT job playing the Queen and deserved the Tony for sure! anyway, back to the whole family idea. I guess because I spend so much time alone and traveling I really enjoy the idea of connecting with family and loved ones, and this play seemed to me, to be a welcoming family. Isn't that a strange way to describe a play? Like being in a family? In a way, the Queen, like me, leads a very solitary life and it is her duty to her people to remain strong and confident, even when she may not feel like doing that. I guess that's the role I feel I play often, remain strong and confident even when I don't want to be. And while she is loved and respected by many, few really know her. I can identify with that. I wish it was different, often, but it is not for reasons I don't really understand. Some people think I'm friendly and others think me cold and aloof. I don't mean to be cold and aloof, but sometimes that image is projected by me for some reason. Maybe sorta like the Queen. Anyway, I think the idea of living in a palace and having no monetary cares is very appealing!! And, the coronation scene right before the intermission was a theatrical spectacle like I've never seen before. I would see the play again (if possible) just to see that scene again. It is etched in my memory forever. This play will always stay with me and bring me comfort! Yea!!

THE AUDIENCE Tonight

As I don't live near London or NY, I managed to catch this at the movie theater on Thurs. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Anyone know if there are plans to release it on DVD?

None of the NTLive broadcasts are eve released.

So, basically, it's either go to the theater live at the streaming release or don't get to see the NT Live event? Also, I wonder if there ever would be a recording of THE AUDIENCE anywhere on DVD? I'd love to see that coronation scene again. I was taken by such surprise that I would love to go back and hear exactly what Elizabeth said. I guess I could read the actual printed play.

THE AUDIENCE Tonight

Billy Elliot Live was released on DVD. Or was that a completely different thing?

THE AUDIENCE Tonight

NT Live has said their creative philosophy is not to release to DVD partly because it doesn't capture the feeling of being in the theater, even a movie theater for broadcast. Hence, encores of the Benedict Cumberbatch/Jonny Lee Miller Frankenstein for several years in a row to meet demand.
