TMZ.com reports that The Color Purple will begin its first national tour with a six-month stint in Chicago in April 2007.

Oprah fans are gonna latch onto this one in Chicago. Is Wicked leaving? or are they just putting it in a different theater?

I wouldnt be surprised if Wicked packed up and went on the road. I'm actually mildly surprised there is only one national tour going on right now, it seems like the type of show that would have multiple ones. This would be the perfect opportunity.

Wicked plays the Oriental Theatre, the article says TCP will play the Cadillac Palace, so there aren't any conflicts.

I see Denver is on the list. Right after seeing it in November I told the president of the DCPA here in Denver to expect a tour announcement because it was ripe for touring and will probably do well on tour.
