I have been a follower of the message board for many years now and finally became a member....in memory of Joe Stein how about a best book/lyrics/music thread.

BEST BOOK - FIDDLER
BEST SCORE - WEST SIDE STORY
BEST LYRICS- SWEENEY TODD

Dex- Welcome to this board.

I'm glad you began a thread paying tribute to Joseph Stein. He was a gifted book writer who made a great contribution to the theatre and enriched the lives of those who saw his shows.

Since he wrote the books for musicals, I'm not sure the score/lyrics component pays him tribute, but I'll participate anyway. (Incidentally, the word score encompasses music and lyrics.)

To limit the list to the shows Joseph Stein wrote,

Best Book- "Fiddler on the Roof"
Best Music- "Juno"
Best Lyrics- "Fiddler on the Roof"
Best Song- "One More Walk Around the Garden" from "Carmelina"


For all shows-

Best Book- "My Fair Lady"
Best Music- "Show Boat"
Best Lyrics- "The Happiest Girl in the World"
Best Song- Impossible to decide

Well, I think Zorba's a wonderful show and I like Fiddler a lot too, but I think this thread has very little to do with Joe Stein.

true ...it has nothing directly to do with Joe Stein...Fidder is just such a great book for a show that I thought it would be interesting to see what other peoples favourite book..lyrics and score were....not necessarily a Joe Stein book.... yes I am fully aware Sweeney Todd's lyrics were not by him...
