I think nobody's mentioned the Batboy musical being directed by John Landis... seems like a good matchup to me.

And this item came out of a gossip column from the UK about two weeks ago --

... NEVER one to miss a trick, I hear Andrew Lloyd Webber is already planning his next musical movie following the success of Phantom Of The Opera.
The musical maestro has signed actors Anthony Hopkins and Hugh
Jackman for Sunset Boulevard and is trying to convince Glenn Close, who played fictional screen legend Norma Desmond in the Broadway hit, to reprise the role.
'Andrew is trying to persuade Glenn to play the part again.
He's also in talks with Meryl Streep. My bet is he'll go with Glenn if he can convince her to do
it,' said a source..."

"GUYS & DOLLS is one of the most perfect musicals ever written."
Matt please explain?! I'm not knocking the show it's a good show. But honestly the most perfect musical ever written is either West Side Story or Sweeney Todd
Also the Movie Musical Revolution (as i like to call it) was, in part, kicked off by Evita but it re-jump started by Moulin Rouge.
I'm not too terribly excited about seeing Hairspray on the big screen....AGAIN. As I am not too familiar with the Musical version I'll hold my final thoughts on it when I do get a chance to read the synop.
I'm leary about The Producers...simply because I adore the original with Zero Mostel and Gean Wilder.

I must admit- I am concerned. POTO is not raking it in & that will probably throw the cold chill of reality on the studios. IF a show can be done cheaply ( We have an expression "GOOD FAST CHEAP- pick two) the studios will usually take the risk . I suppose a couple of independants could cobble together but as much as possible the studios want a guarantee either w a big name director or stars or (occ) writer. Big names = Big Bucks. Not gonna hold my breath for this.

Guys and Dolls is perfect in that you can walk out of the theatre humming the songs, each song is in place, all dialogue has the effect it should on the audience (happy/sad/funny)

It also contains one of the most loathesome sentiments I've ever heard in musical form in "Marry the Man Today."

I happen to HATE Guys & Dolls (Ducks). I find it to be annoying. A musical about Gamblers and Dames - how droll.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive.
"Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot."
"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one."
Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I cannot stand "Marry The Man Today." It grates on my nerves and hurts my ears.
