Sweeney IS being made with direction by Sam Mendes. Urinetown was rumored to be starring Bette Midler as Pennywise.

Here are some musicals I would love to see as movies (that haven't already been announced)...
-The Last Five Years
-Parade
-Wicked (with massive retooling)
-The Light in the Piazza
-Caroline, or Change
-City of Angels

Ooooh! Bette as Ms. Pennywise would be excellent!!! I think I heard somewhere that Jim Carrey wanted to play Officer Lockstock (that he was obsessed w/ the show and saw it bunches of times)...could be interesting if he can sing, I guess.

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

Hmmm. As Lockstock? I don't really see him there. I see him more as Hotblades Harry. Haha. I'm sure they're courting that Star Trek guy (I'm totally blanking on his name) who was supposed to join the cast if the show hadn't closed. I think Luther Creek would be a great Bobby, and Kristin Chenoweth would probably be the most marketable Hope, and she'd be really funny.

My bad your right about sam mendes, but he has yet to set a production schedule or even begin pre-production or cast it or pretty much anything else...there are about a thousand shows at this status (one of them urinetown although i dont think it even has a "director")

Same Mendes has NOT yet signed to direct SWEENEY TODD. His production company is producing it. It is LIKELY he will direct. A source says he is very excited about the project.

We'll know soon about the progress of BAT BOY and SWEENEY TODD movie musicals.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

"Sweeney" is being adapted by the screenwriter of "The Last Samarai" and "The Aviator". Any thoughts on casting? It's hard to think of a Sweeney and Lovett who are age-appropriate, talented, and good singers, and are also big enough names. Personally, I'd love to see Julie Walters (Mrs. Weasley in the "Harry Potter" movies) get a crack at it--she IS Mrs. Lovett--but I doubt producers would think her enough of a draw.

John Landis is supposed to direct "Bat Boy"--a good choice, I think--but I seemed to recall hearing it was going to be made for TV. That's probably how "Avenue Q" could work best as well.

I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

Nope - BAT BOY is for the big screen.

I could really care less about the big screen quite honestly... but I would like some recordings to be released. Like Boy From Oz and Wicked and Piazza and others that I couldn't see from the OBC members to have in my collection.
