Universal has begun it's project of bringing the smash Broadway hit, THE PRODUCERS, to the silver screen; and wouldn't you know it, they have MATTHEW BRODERICK and NATHAN LANE in mind for the leads.
Dark Horizons included this info in their tidbits section.

Posted: 6/3/03 at 5:18pmYea!!!! my first time seeing it will be sometime this next year. I really want to see them in the roles. =) I hope they have the sense to just use the original cast in all the parts--it would be a smash hit. =)

As a fan of The Producers, I sure hope they don't screw this up!
My suggestion would be for Mel to team up with Rob Marshall. A director with his talent is needed to create the film vehicle that showcases the stage magic of The Producers. Also, Nathan and Matthew are mandatory!

Oh, Rob Marshall is a good idea. Whose was it? Yours, or Rex's? :)
I think this movie could be really fantastic. I hope they do it well, with the OBC.

Ever since CHICAGO studios have been saying "This show would be a hit on film!" or "Lets make millions off of this show" and "We'll be sure to get an Oscar for this show!"
If it is going to happen, let's hope the film will be made with passion, appreciation, and respect. Same goes for PHANTOM and URINETOWN.

What the hell...it is a movie already. Whatever. I just hope they do it like they did Cats or Into the Woods. If people want to see a movie movie version...it's called go and rent the old one! It's a classic!
